The Olympus E400 offers SLR flexibility and power at a point-and-shoot cameras size. Who wouldn't want that? It is no surprise really, for it is not the first time that Olympus has set the SLR market on its ear with a completely revolutionary product, a product far removed from the "big 2" huge and bulky offerings. Olympus did it with the OM-1, which became the most copied camera design in history. What else could the other brands do (but copy)? Consumers, particularly outdoors lovers, want compactness in an SLR, and they want it now. They got it then with the OM-1, and they are getting it now with the E400. It does not suit my needs "right now", but you never know, my E-1 might want a little brother. This is innovation at its best. The lenses have a very retro 35mm SLR look about them, don't they? Bravo Olympus !

The Olympus E400 must be the Olympus digital SLR that OM system users have been waiting for. It looks so much like my OM1 and OM4, and the compact size keeps faith with the Olympus tradition. I've not yet seen a digital SLR that looks so right.

Having owned Olympus SLR's since the 2500 I am glad to see they are moving forward, however one feature keeps getting left out - the remote shutter release. The E10, E20, E1, E300 all featured this valuable addition to automated synchronized photography (lightning, stop motion, etc) but it disappeared with the 500 and 330 models, as well as the Olympus E400. We need to tell Olympus that a remote shutter is important - other MFGRS have it and I would not want to give it up when Olympus has had a great system combined with their noise reduction for night shots. I hope they get the message, it’s a small feature we need, external to the camera.
