We have just received a sample of the brand new Fujifilm FinePix V10. Although the sample is in a pre-production status we can give you an exclusive inside look of the compact Fujifilm V10 digital camera. This brand new FinePix model comes in two colours (Gunmetal or Orange finish), features the Real Photo Technology and is equipped with an ultra large 3 inch monitor. It's only been a year since manufacturers have started to use large 3 inch displays for their prestigious products. Once you have worked with such a large display you never want to go back to a smaller sized one. The Fujifilm V10 incorporates a 5.1 Megapixel Super CCD HR sensor which already attained high scores regarding excellent noise/signal ratio at high ISO values. The improved version of the Super CCD offers higher resolutions and less noise, a welcoming combination.

Of course the Fujifilm V10 supports the xD Picture card to store all your digital pictures and video clips which should not come to anyone as a surprise. The ultra compact and light weight flash memory card is one of these tiny cards you have to deal with. Today Fujifilm and Olympus are the main supporters of this medium with one solo Kodak digital camera as a third party supporter. At this moment the xD Picture card is available up to 1GB storage capacity which is a bit limited compared to other types of flash cards. However 2006 will for sure be the year for an upgrade to at least 2GB. To use the xD card turn off the Fujifilm FinePix V10 and open the battery compartment at the bottom of the camera. The compartment is meant for the Lithium Ion battery and the flash card. Just push the card all the way down till it locks. To remove the card push the xD Picture card into the slot again and it will be released. The Fujifilm V10 uses an NP-40 3.6V 750mAh Lithium Ion battery for its energy. The V10 digital camera comes standard with an AC-5VW power adapter and an NP-40 battery. The Lithium Ion battery needs to be charged inside the camera. Open the battery compartment and hold the battery so that the indicators are aligned. Just push the battery release catch aside and load the battery into the camera. This release catch is a small but important detail to prevent the battery from accidentally falling out of the camera. Connect the power adapter to the Fujifilm FinePix V10 digital camera. It will take approximately two hours to fully charge an empty battery. The optional BC-65 battery charger will shorten the charge time to approximately 65 minutes. You will be able to shoot around 170 images with a fully charged battery.

The Fujifilm V10 digital camera comes with a CD-Rom with a bundle of software. FinePix viewer 5.1 for Windows, FinePix viewer version 3.3 for Mac, USB driver for mass storage, ImageMixer VCD2 LE for FinePix and a light edition RAW file converter are packed on the CD-ROM. Although you can directly connect the Fujifilm FinePix V10 to your computer or notebook you might want to consider the use of the FinePix software.
The audio/video (A/V) cable provided with the Fujifilm FinePix V10 digital camera can be used to connect the V10 camera to a television and show the captured images on a large screen or even play built-in games on it. Sharing your favourite moments with family and friends on different occasions or even playing these integrated games is just a matter of taking the camera with you and connecting it as mentioned. Of course the Fujifilm FinePix V10 supports NTSC and PAL systems.
The Fujifilm FinePix V10 features a high-speed shooting mode that reduces the time required for focusing when pressing the shutter button halfway down. This mode works best when you shoot the subject from a distance of about 1 m. When this function is active the Fujifilm V10 will enhance the sensitivity and battery consumption will increase. The LCD power save function is disabled in this mode.

Editor's comment:
"The Fujifilm FinePix V10 is one very nicely designed digital camera. Its huge display offers enormous comfort when taking pictures or viewing your captured moments. It is just great to see the colourful images on such a big screen. Although there is almost no space left on the back of the camera for the necessary buttons I find the spot just below the monitor a perfectly chosen place. The resolution of 5.1 Megapixel is less than competitive brands have introduced in their compact designed cameras, but thanks to the high quality Super CCD HR image sensor and the combination of the Real Photo Technology Fujifilm offers a more powerful combination. Improving the image quality instead of simply increasing Megapixels proves to be far more worthwhile, at least in this stage..."

Fujifilm has always been a promoter of video clip recording on a digital camera. The Fujifilm FinePix V10 offers movie mode. After setting the mode switch to Movie you press the Photo mode button that activates the menu which enables you to select the video clip setting you desire. The Fujifilm V10 records video clips as Motion JPEG with sound in a video resolution of 640 x 480 at 30fps or 320x240 at 30fps. The frame rate is fixed.
Besides the 3x optical zoom the Fujifilm FinePix V10 features up to 3.4x digital zoom resulting in a total zoom of 38 - 770mm (35mm equivalent and 3:2 mode). In digital zoom, the data from the camera's image sensor are processed digitally, enlarging the center area of the picture to fill the frame. Unlike optical zoom, digital zoom does not increase the amount of detail visible in the picture. In other words it will lower the image quality.
