The Fujifilm FinePix E900 is one of Fujifilm's new digital cameras incorporating Real Photo Technology. The three most important elements of the digital camera: the image sensor, the lens and the intelligent image processing software, are attuned to one another. The new technology has already proven itself with the impressive results of the DIWA Gold Award winning Fujifilm FinePix F10 and FinePix S9500 cameras. The new E900 will also benefit from the Real Photo Technology. The high sensitivity nature of the Super CCD image sensors and the quality of the Fujinon lens result in high quality photos. Additionally, the high-speed Real Photo processor ensures a fast start-up time, and a very efficient energy consumption. We highly support the fact that Fujifilm take the effort to improve on more than the number of pixels and other important aspects like noise and power consumption.
On top of the Fujifilm E900 digital camera we find the mode dial. The wheel is a feature that has become very common among digital cameras such as the FinePix E900. The camera has a full auto program together with the more in-depth settings A, S and M. Furthermore we see four scene modes (natural light, portrait, sports and night) and the movie mode. Portrait, sports and night are quite obvious, but natural light might need some explanation. This mode produces realistic looking images that retain the natural ambience when shots are taken in low-light conditions. This mode is also ideal for situations where the flash cannot be used. Enabling the Movie mode the Fujifilm FinePix E900 is able to capture movies (inc. sound) with a resolution of 640x480 pixels and a frame speed of 30fps. You cannot use the zoom during recording so you need to set this before you start. Using the mode dial there will be some information displayed on the LCD monitor which will assist you when you change the setting with the help of the multi-controller.

On the back of the camera we see the macro function on the Multi-selector button. If you want to capture real close-ups you need to use this mode. It enables you to shoot from a distance of 7,5cm. Be careful when using the viewfinder, the field visible through the viewfinder does not match the field actually photographed. This is common with compact digital cameras like the E900. Use the LCD monitor to take pictures in Macro mode.
The F-button on the back of the E900 is a feature which gives the user access to a special menu with specific photo functions. Pressing the F button enables you to change settings like Quality mode (number of recorded pixels), FinePix Color and ISO sensitivity. The FinePix E900 digital camera offers seven resolution settings with two compression settings for 9 Megapixel. ISO range is 80 up to 800 ISO and FinePix Color gives access to colour settings like black and white, chrome (slight) and sepia.
Like all other digital cameras the FinePix E900 features a self-timer. It is still a commonly used feature among users. When the self-timer is selected the icon appears on the LCD monitor. Try to make your composition, press the shutter button, and try to be there in time. The picture will be taken within 2 or 10 seconds. A countdown appears on the LCD monitor indicating the time remaining until the picture is taken. The self-timer mode is cancelled after each shot.

Editor's comment:
"Although we have only had the Fujifilm FinePix E900 digital camera in the office for a short while, and despite the fact that the model was of a pre-production status, we can conclude that the Fujifilm E900 is a pioneer in the high resolution class. With the introduction of the FinePix E900 a new compact digital camera class is established. Do we need a 9 Megapixel high resolution camera for the ordinary 10x15cm photos? Of course not, but like all the things around us, technical evolution simply cannot be stopped. Using 6 Megapixels of resolution is enough for most of us, however I do believe that manufacturers like Fujifilm provide us with more freedom in shooting, editing and printing. We will soon publish a full production model Fujifilm FinePix E900 review ..."
