Toshiba announces the new PDR-4300 4 Megapixel camera
During the PMA 2003 event in sunny Las Vegas Toshiba showed their latest 4 Megapixel camera of the Toshiba PDR family. The PDR-4300 is equipped with a 4.0 Megapixel CCD and a 2.8x optical zoom lens. According to Toshiba it will be available around the end of March 2003.
The PDR-4300 provides the use a resolution of 2400x1600 pixels which will result in photo-quality prints or will give the user enough material to crop their own favorite image. According to Doug Freck, Vice President & General Manager of Toshiba Imaging Systems Division, the new PDR-4300 is a perfect combination of a powerful resolution and an all-glass lens system with a an operation that is based on the operation of a film-based point-and -shoot camera. The resolution of 4 Megapixel is selectable between 2400x1600, 1200x1800 to 720x480 pixels. In order to produce perfect results from afar to close up the camera is equipped with an all-glass Canon lens with a focal length of 35-100mm equivalent to 35-100mm on a 35mm camera. The wide f2.9 aperture gives the user enough light to shoot under difficult light conditions. Next to the 2.8x optical zoom the Toshiba PDR-4300 can also provide the user a 2.2x digital zoom which will result in a total zoom of 6x. The shutter speed range is ½ - 1/1000e second. Though it can work as a simple, point-and-shoot camera the PDR-4300 offers al kinds of manual controls like manual exposure, selectable light metering (spot/centre), selectable ISO (100/200/400), automatic exposure, full manual, shutter priority, aperture priority, selectable white balance and scene select.

The PDR-4300 will be shipped with a 16MB Secure Digital card, but of course the storage can be expended with an external Secure Digital card up to 512MB. The JPEG images will be stored in a selectable compression of fine, normal or basic. Besides capturing still images the PDR-4300 is also capable of handling video clips in a 320x240 resolution with 15fps. On the back of the camera is a 1.6-inch LCD monitor with a resolution of 279x229 pixels, the USB 1.1 interface is taking care of the data transport between camera and computer.
