Olympus E-300 Hands on!

Today we had the change to get our hands on the next FourThird evolution - the Olympus E-300 SLR camera. This new SLR camera is eagerly awaited by many Olympus SLR fans. With the introduction of the E-system, the E-1 made its appearance, but because Olympus decided to launch a PRO model only many Olympus enthusiastic digital SLR fans were a little bit disappointed. Today with the introduction of the new Olympus camera those who have waited now have the chance to get their hands on an attractive and innovated designed digital body with a higher resolution (8 Million pixels) and a more interesting price.

Beside getting a higher resolution the body also slimmed in dimensions. Due to the fact that Olympus was able to replace the traditional penta prism by a TTL Optical Porro finder the E-300 got a more compact look. But not only the size is different, maybe more important, the new Olympus camera is lighter and even more compact comparing to competitive digital SLRs. Another difference is the built-in flash that we are used to see in amateur and semi-pro digital SLRs. The camera has a good and solid grip. It felt comfortable in your hand and compared with the E-1 it is indeed much compacter and if you like more comfortable to carry with you. At this moment the price is not official yet, but if we may believe the rumours, etc. we can expect a very attractive price tag for a 8 Megapixel digital SLR! After the Photokina we may see an Olympus publication of an official price. Introduced with the E-1 SLR the new E-300 also benefits the innovative way of preventing dust entering an SLR when swapping lenses, etc. A Supersonic wave filter generated very high speed vibrations to remove the dust from the CCD. The dust is captured on a special adhesive panel inside the body. This function operates fully automatically at start-up, but it is also possible to activate it manually.

We are eager to get our hands on a full production model. The concept of this new digital SLR camera is, in our opinion, good and very interesting, and the specifications are quite interesting compared to that of the competitor's assortment. Let us wait till this new digital E-300 SLR arrives for testing, we are sure the fist reviews will appear very soon!
