SanDisk Corporation introduces the ImageMate 6-in-1 memory card reader, the world's first high-speed, USB 2.0, multi-card reader. The reader has slots for CompactFlash Type I and II cards, SmartMedia, Secure Digital, Memory Stick and the MultiMedia-Card. It is also backward compatible and can be used with computers based on USB 1.1.
The announcement will be made at the Photokina 2002 trade show where SanDisk is demonstrating products in Hall 5.1, A-11. Most card readers in use today employ USB 1.1 technology that has a data transfer rate of 12 megabits a second (Mbps). With hi-speed USB 2.0, SanDisk's new ImageMate 6-in-1 card reader is capable of data transfer rates of up to 480Mbps. Due to the increase of larger memory capacities and the desire to transfer more and more data the shifting towards USB 2.0 gives a great benefit. There are a lot of systems and new devices that are starting to move to USB 2.0, so the new USB 2.0 ImageMate reader will give a good solution to future needs. According to SanDisk most new desktop computers and laptops are expected to have USB 2.0 by the end of this year.
