Kyocera Finecam S5 short introduction
The new Kyocera FineCam S5 was already sneaked out on the worldwide Internet, but there are no specifications yet available. We were able to get the official specifications during our short visit at the Yashica booth where they were working very hard to get the job done. The new Kyocera Finecam S5 is the latest in the line-up of Finecam cameras. This model is also very compact, 92x57.5x32mm and weighs only about 165g excl. memory card and battery pack. The new Finecam S5 has an effective number of 5 Megapixels and a 1/1.8" image sensor size. The 5 Megapixel CCD results in a maximum resolution of 2560x1920 pixels where the movie mode records in a maximum resolution of 320x240 pixels.
The Kyocera Finecam S5 has a 3x optical zoom lens (7 elements in 6 groups) with a focal range of 35-105mm equivalent to a 35mm camera. The lens has a brightness of f2.8 in wide and f4.8 in tele. The focusing range is about 0.55m to infinity and in macro mode about 12cm-55cm with the use of full zoom range. The exposure is fully automatic or manual settable to f2.8 or f9.6, shutter speeds are settable to 2, 4 or 8 seconds. The metering methods are multi area evaluation, centre-weighted and spotmetering. Furthermore the new Finecam S5 has some usual flash settings (auto, red-eye reduction, fill-in, off and night time portrait).

The focus mode is selectable to a wide AF area, spot AF area or a manual focus mode. The movie mode is in AVI format with sound up to 30 seconds in high resolution or up to 120 seconds in lower resolution. The ISO mode is automatic or manual selectable to 100, 200 or 400 ISO. The recording media that is used is just like the other Finecam cameras Secure Digital, the images are recorded in JPEG format. For power a 3.6V Lithium Ion 1000mAh battery pack is used.
We have to wait what quality all these new 5 Megapixel cameras that are using the smaller size 5 Megapixel CCD will bring us. For now these new introductions will have to come out on the market this year. We expect to hear more from these cameras when they are really available for the public.
