Panasonic introduces the Lumix DMC-FZ2 camera
The large stand of Panasonic offers sufficient room to the new digital camera of the Lumix assortment. It is surprising to see that despite the nice appearance of the camera, it is more or less hidden in a corner. Of course Panasonic has a lot more to offer than only a digital camera, the plasma screens, the video combinations and all other high-tech gadgets are present but the camera lover will regret that the camera seems to play a second fiddle. The LUMIX series is just beginning to grow up and could have been moved up front. The new Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ2 is the latest model of the Lumix series. The preceding model already had a lot of credit for its impressive 12x optical zoom lens. The new DMC-FZ2 is also equipped with this powerful optical zoom lens. The lens has an unprecedented brightness of f2.8 in the whole optical range and is equipped with an internal stabilisation. The optical range is 35-420mm compared to a 35mm camera. The Leica DC-Vario-Elmarit lens is a valuable piece of technique that the Panasonic DMC-FZ2 features. The lens consists of 13 elements in 8 groups, inclusive 4 aspherical lens parts.

The Panasonic DMC-FZ2 has a full automatic mode but it is also possible to set the aperture and shutter speed manually. In spite of the large optical range of the lens, the complete size of the camera stayed very compact. With its size, 125x70x83mm and weight of 414grams (incl. battery and storage medium), the camera can easily compete with other manufacturers of cameras with a large optical range. The DMC-FZ2 has an improved start-up time and an interval of release of 0.1 second. The Mega Burst function of the camera enables the shooting of 7 full resolution images continuously at a speed of 4 images per second. The camera also has various preset programmes like: portrait, night, night portrait, sports, macro and P, S, A and M settings. The preset settings enable a fast operation at which the optical zoom and the internal stabilization system are a very welcoming addition. Beside the possibility of capturing still images the camera can also record moving images. The QuickTime video clips are recorded with sound in a resolution of 320x240.

The back side of the camera is equipped with a (too) small LCD monitor of 1.5-inch. A camera like the DMC-FZ2 that has the above mentioned optical possibilities ought to, at least, be equipped with a size 1.8-inch LCD! The resolution of the LCD monitor is 114.000 pixels. The Lumix DMC-FZ2 will be available this month (September) and will have a suggested retail price of € 529 (based on the German suggested retail price).
