Just a comment, as I'm still trying to learn how to use my Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1...It does indeed have an optical zoom, also an extended optical zoom function and a digital zoom function. This is a luxurious-feeling camera like a Leica M, but it isn't very intuitive to use.

Panasonic L1 is very fast and can preview shots on the LCD display. The price is far too high and the design is not what you may expect from a camera at this price. I’m disappointed about buying this expensive Lumix L1, but it can be a good choice for action photography.

I like the design of the Panasonic Lumix L1. I can reach all the controls without having to remove my eye from the view finder. I hold the camera with my left hand, supporting the lens barrel. It's quiet compared to cameras I tried before! The Panasonic L1 takes good pictures and the lens is great. I love this camera!
