The main reason for buying a new camera was that I wanted the capability to shoot short high quality movies, e.g. for nice moments with the kids, allowing me to leave my video camera at home. The Canon S3 IS lives up to all my expectations - its movie mode is a dream, the 12x zoom with stabilisation allows for magnificent movie clips. The clips are rather big, approx. 150Mb/minute, so after download convert to MPG2 to reduce to approx. 40Mb/minute. Photo image quality is very good, the big 12x zoom allows for great shots, and using 'a bit' digital zoom gives amazing zoom shots. On the down side, autofocus is sometimes problematic, at full zoom you just get a blur - which can occur more than you think because the zoom is so nice to play with.
