Sony Cybershot DSC HX5 Conclusion

Sony Cybershot DSC-HX5 digital camera review
The Sony Cybershot DSC-HX5 is fairly unique in its kind. Not due to the powerful 10x optical range, as the competition tops that. And also not due to the effective image stabilizer, as that is also known from other manufacturers. The Sony HX5 is unique due to its remarkable image sensor and the possibilities that this offers that make the life of a photographer more pleasant. I am referring especially to the heightened dynamic range that the images have, and the addictive Sweep Panorama mode.

Photograph with the Sony Cybershot HX5
They are indeed these remarkable features and the ease with which they can be performed that make for joy in photography. I make panorama photos all the time now. I see a street in Amsterdam with a pretty canal, and before I know it, I pull the camera across it and capture the panorama; it’s very fun to do. Such innovative functions have been integrated by Sony in such a user-friendly way, that as an amateur or as a photographer it is not difficult to use at all. Just select it, and the technology does the rest.

Sony DSC-HX5 all round megazoom camera
These are powerful features and in combination with its compact format and zoom range, the Sony DSC-HX5 is a serious candidate for the title ‘all round mega zoom camera’ of the year. I can imagine that even a serious photographer will want to have the Sony HX5 on the side, even if only to capture snapshots creatively. The far-reaching automation serves the photographer. And that’s where I have a few, small points of criticism.

Sony CyberShot DSC-HX5 menu navigation
A camera such as the Sony Cybershot HX5 should actually be equipped with aperture and other programmable choices. Innovation has put the camera on a relatively high level, but unfortunately this has cost it the true manual setting possibilities. Manual lighting in terms of aperture only has the choice between two stops. I don’t even miss the RAW mode that much, but I do experience the camera's menu navigation to be slow now and then, and it should be faster.

Sony HX5 review conclusion
The Sony Cybershot HX5 surely pleased me. The Sony HX5 has a lot to offer the compact camera user, and even give them the feeling that it is an all round camera. As a beginner photographer that hits pretty close to home. However, I still feel that the Sony DSC-HX5 missed out by not offering more advanced, or rather, more true manual modes. In that case, the Sony DSC-HX5 would have undoubtedly been the photographer's favorite. Nevertheless, I name the Sony Cybershot DSC-HX5 as the favorite camera of the moment, excellent!
