Pentax Optio T10 Conclusion

Pentax Optio T10 digital camera
With their Optio series of digital cameras, Pentax have been part of the camera market for years. We have seen many Optio introductions, and it should be said that Pentax manage to surprise us time and time again. The Pentax Optio T10 is no different, and offers the perfect combination of user-friendliness and design. Perhaps the introduction of the Pentax Optio T10 will prove to be the starting signal from Pentax to use large format 3 inch monitors with touch-screens in future models. The Pentax Optio T10 digital camera is an attractive camera with a stylish design and a unique operation.

Pentax T10 - Preprogrammed scenes
The operation of the Pentax Optio T10 compact camera is pleasant and proves particularly intuitive to work with. I found this unconventional way of operating a camera much to my liking, and the interface is so clear that everyone will be able to work with the Pentax T10 instantly. A user manual is simply no longer needed, which should certainly be regarded as a success. The Pentax Optio T10 deals with virtually all actions entirely automatically, or allows the user to exercise a certain degree of influence through a wide variety of pre-programmed scenes. In addition, you have the option to set the light metering, exposure compensation, white balance, ISO value and AF mode to your own preference. However, I expect most users to rely on the automatic mode, whilst trying out a scene or two occasionally, to capture all those daily moments.

Pentax T10 - Excellent image quality
The image quality of the Pentax Optio T10 is convincing, and offers an excellent colour rendition. The light metering does as it should, and produces a very decent exposure. The white balance encounters virtually no trouble where your average daily subject is concerned. It is only when working with a surplus of fluorescent light that you need to jump in to filter the colour cast. Overall, the performance of the automatic white balance leaves little to be desired. For this type of camera, the concept of the Optio T10 simply makes sense - and what's more, it works exceptionally well.

Pentax Optio T10 - 3 inch LCD monitor
The high resolution 3 inch monitor is a pleasure to use, and in combination with the touch-screen, it presents the user with a very comfortable way of photographing. Although the monitor does prove slightly tricky to work with in bright sunlight, this certainly does not weigh up to the positive sides that this camera has to offer. The user interface is both simple and straightforward, and can be used without the need for any instructions whatsoever, a superb asset! Although the settings that the Pentax T10 offers may be somewhat limited for the hobby photographer, the simple and straightforward design will meet all the needs of the entry-level user and the photographer that prefers ease and convenience.

Pentax Optio T10 - ISO values
When we look at the ISO values, we see that the Pentax Optio T10 has opted for a rather cautious approach. The ISO range, which runs from 80 - 400 ISO, is admittedly quite limited when we compare it to that of the competition. And although we often end up putting higher ISO values to the sword, labelling them as "unusable" or "too much noise", the integration of higher ISO values remains something that is generally desired, especially in the battle against jitter. The Pentax Optio T10 lacks an image stabiliser, and I must admit that is something I do miss. Perhaps a pointer for a Pentax Optio T11?

Pentax Optio T10 for the trendy photographer
The Pentax T10 is an attractive camera with an intuitive operation. The use of a touch-screen in combination with the beautiful 3 inch monitor adds a considerable surplus value to the camera. The Pentax Optio T10 has a compact size, can easily be carried along in a trouser pocket, and guarantees an excellent photo quality. The user that values ease and convenience will find this camera offers plenty of options, and even the trendy photographer is likely to be charmed by the features and functions on the Pentax Optio T10. Trendy, eye-catching and innovative are the keywords for the Pentax Optio T10. A most successful concept!

SanDisk Ultra II Plus memory card
I chose to equip the camera with a handy SanDisk Ultra II Plus memory card for the practice tests. This small card is an SD card that has a standard format, yet offers a remarkable feature. The Secure Digital memory card is equipped with a USB interface. After you have captured the images, you can remove the SD card from the card slot of the Pentax Optio T10 and insert it directly into a free USB port of a notebook or computer, without the need for a card reader or a connected camera. This comes in enormously handy to rapidly transfer a number of images, or to use the SD card as a universal super compact storage medium.
