Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2 system camera
Panasonic managed to be the center of attention with the Panasonic G1. The camera was received enthusiastically worldwide, and was especially praised for its general high quality. The expectations were thus a bit higher for the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2. But the Panasonic G2 lives up to those expectations. The most important critique for the G1, the lack of a video function, has been eliminated by the DMC-G2. We also praise the unique and user-friendly camera control. The fully-equipped touchscreen is truly an added value and pleasantly surprised us in practice. Touchscreen control in combination with the improved ergonomics of the camera, has led to an improved user-friendliness and we can conclude that the Panasonic DMC-G2 is an example for others in terms of ease of use and user interface.
Photography with the Panasonic Lumix G2
The speed, with which video and photo are processed in the Panasonic Lumix G2, is excellent. Autofocus performance is fine, for a system camera actually excellent, making photography via Live View even more intuitive. The optical quality of the kit lens is fine, and is sufficient in all aspects. If you want to get more creative, you can choose from Panasonic’s increasingly wider and more varied assortment. We expect more Micro Four Thirds lenses shortly, also from other parties.
Panasonic DMC-G2 features a video function
Another added value of the Panasonic G2 is the video function. Although the GH1 is the best one in that area, the DMC-G2 delivers a great video performance. The enthusiastic photographer will be able to be creative with the G2, and possibly even engage in video. What the camera is capable of can be seen in the many video clips that different photographers have placed on worldwide channels like YouTube. It shows what an inspirational camera can lead to.

Despite the praise, we also have a small point of criticism. The competition is not sitting still and we have seen different Micro Four Thirds and other system cameras being introduced. Not all these cameras are successful, one has a badly thought-out user interface, and the other stays behind a bit in terms of performance, but they are often equipped with a fairly new designed sensor. The new generation of Lumix G-cameras could gain on this aspect. The performances of the Panasonic DMC-G2, such as ISO, are excellent, but we know that especially in the high ISO values, there is room for improvement. That is a new challenge for the Panasonic engineers.
Panasonic Lumix G2 : An excellent all-round system camera
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-G2 is a very user-friendly system camera with excellent ease of use and a low learning curve. It is a camera that replaces the DSLR camera with ease and actually has more to offer. The Panasonic G2 will take the beginner photographer by the hand and tempt him or her to taking high quality photos and video clips without needing to have any basic knowledge of photography. The much appraised iA mode also makes this possible, and processes every difficult situation effortlessly. It is a splendid all-round system camera, with which Panasonic manages to take the leading role in this segment.
