DIWA AwardsPMA 2004 has been an important occasion for DIWA. At the beginning of this month the very first DIWA awards were revealed, a silver DIWA medal for the Casio QV-R40 and for Olympus, a gold DIWA medal for the Olympus E-1 and a further gold medal in recognition of the innovations at the heart of the Olympus E-System. This week's prestigious PMA show formed the perfect backdrop to formal presentations of the awards. Ian Burley, general manager of DIWA presented a framed silver award certificate to Akira Watanabe, senior manager product planning Olympus Imaging Systems Group and Yasuo Asakura, director product development Olympus Imaging Systems Group, holding their Gold DIWA award certificates and Ulrich Goetze, European marketing manager.
First DIWA awards presented at PMAIan also presented the DIWA silver medal award certificate for the Casio QV-R40 to Susumu Takashima, senior general manager of the Casio QV digital camera product development unit, Yozo Suzuki, managing director of Casio global marketing and Kiyotaka Hachiya, senior general manager strategic sales and marketing for North America & Europe.

The awards made by DIWA this week are sure to be followed by many more over the coming months and years. Once a year, DIWA makes additional awards, selecting the best of the year's award winners to determine DIWA platinum medal winners.

In addition, DIWA directors, Kai Thon, Mark Peters and Dennis Hissink joined Ian in a number of meetings with senior representatives from Canon, Sony, Nikon and others to highlight the philosophy behind DIWA and to underline the importance of DIWA member Web sites.

All of us who have attended PMA agreed that the show was much more successful than we dared expect. There is a high degree of interest in what we are doing and further meetings at European HQs of major manufacturers are now being planned.
