Olympus Live view SLR wins TIPA Award : Olympus’ latest innovation in the field of digital imaging, the E-330 with Live Preview capability, has been awarded the TIPA “Best Imaging Innovation” prize in Europe for 2006. Each year, TIPA (Technical Image Press Association) confers awards to products and technologies of special distinction across a number of areas in the field of photography. The association membership currently comprises 31 publications across 12 countries. The Live Preview function of the Olympus E-330 digital camera has set a new standard in digital SLR photography by combining, for the first time, the convenience of a digital compact camera with the high-quality standards of a digital SLR.

Olympus E-330 - Features
Eliminating the need to look through the ocular, continuous live views on the tilting, multi-angle LCD not only offer users the advantage of knowing what’s going on around them while they shoot. They also greatly extend shooting flexibility - no matter if taking shots with interesting perspectives from unusual positions or even capturing scenes of marine life from below the water’s surface with the camera protected in a specially-available underwater case. Naturally, the Olympus E-330 also impresses in terms of picture quality, featuring a new-generation image sensor for stunningly sharp results.
TIPA Award - 7,5 Megapixel Live MOS Sensor
Explaining the main reasons for their decision, the TIPA jury commented: “Olympus reinforces its heritage as an innovative manufacturer with the Olympus E-330. It’s the first digital SLR camera with interchangeable lenses to offer a tilting LCD monitor on the back along with an optical viewfinder. Thanks to its Live View technology, this monitor allows different viewing angles so that macro, overhead or waist-level photography can be accomplished with ease and comfort.” The new 7.5 megapixel Live MOS image sensor was also praised for the crisp, vibrant images it delivers - which according to TIPA makes one question the model’s status as an amateur D-SLR. Finally, the jury commended the E-330’s compatibility with the “growing range of FourThirds lenses, which sport high quality optics specifically designed for digital sensors.”
About Tipa Awards
When the European governments decided that the Old Continent was going to be transformed into the largest economy area in the developed world, also the photographic industry had to redefine its strategy. With this epochal change, even photo magazines have to rethink their future, and we at TIPA decided to join our enthusiasm for photography. Since 1991, TIPA members meet once a year at the General Assembly to discuss projects, share opinions, comment on industry innovations and trends, often visiting historical photographic sites, museums or factories.
