ICT EXPOICT Expo 2006 Bangkok Thailand : With both foreign and local entrepreneurs eyeing of the potential of Thai ICT, space for the coming ICT Expo 2006 is now more than 80% booked. Already 250 companies are preparing exhibitions of their technologies. The ministry is now turning its attention to small and boutique entrepreneurs. Mr. Kraisorn Pornsutee Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology said preparations for the Bangkok International ICT Expo, which opens on August 2 and continues until August 6 at the Challenger Hall, Impact Exhibition and Convention Center, Muang Thong Thani. Once news of the Expo got out, entrepreneurs from across the globe were quick to book their space.

About 50 per cent of all available space is now booked and 12 countries will be represented. But the ministry is looking to garner interest from at least 15 countries. The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology from Thailand has promoted the event both directly and indirectly, using international promotional activities to communicate its vision for the Expo to the world.

International Exhibitors have attended multilateral trade visits, at which organizations that provide investment support explained why they were involved in this burgeoning industry. The meeting was to create opportunities for companies to invest in projects such as the The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, Software Industry Promotion Agency (Public Organization), The Thai Board of Investment (BOI), Software Park and to get a glimpse of the possibility for investment here.

World Wide Technology Events
Permanent Secretary Mr. Kraisorn said the Thai showcase had attracted great interest at such regarded international events as the CeBIT Hannover in Germany, e-Gov Asia 2006, and the ED Meeting of ASOCIO in Seoul, Korea. Ministry officials have met with representatives of nine foreign embassies, asking them to help convey news of the coming Expo. In the middle of this month, the team will travel to CeBIT Australia, Singapore and Japan in that order.

Impact Exhibition Management
Mr. Tweesak Dheerakiatkumchorn Advisor to the Chairman Impact Exhibition Management Co., Ltd. said major IT, telecommunication and communications organizations, from both government and private sectors, had reserved space at the Expo. The bookings include giants such as the Software Industry promotion Agency (SIPA), TOT Public Company Limited, CAT Telecom Public Company Limited, Advance Info Service Public Company Limited and True Corporation Public Company Limited. Everyone involved knows that this year’s event will be the best yet, drawing larger crowds than ever.

Majesty the King Bhumibol Adulyadej
The Expo will include the King’s Pavilion, promoting the genius of His Majesty the King Bhumibol Adulyadej on his 60th anniversary on the throne. The exhibition will be divided into seven sections. There will be an electronic visitors’ book, at which people can register and send a blessing to His Majesty. Panorama Therter will showcase His Majesty’s talents in the area of science and his constant encouragement of special projects from promoting e-learning, forest and water development and the sustainable economy, to telecommunications and its natural extension, ICT.

Asia ICT Connection
At the Expo, the ICT Thailand Pavilion will present the latest innovations on topics ranging from the ICT Tower, e-Government, e-Industry and e-Education, to e-Society and the Cleaning Zone. There are another 10 zones for both large and small entrepreneurs to showcase their technology. The display will be held on more than 60,000 square metres of the Challenger Hall, Impact Exhibition and Convention Center, Muang Thong Thani. Mr. Sermkhun Kunawong CEO, CM Organizer Public Company Limited said the way business is promoted at the Expo will create unique opportunities for like-minded entrepreneurs to meet.

Global Collaboration in ICT Trade
Each entrepreneur is given 20 minutes to introduce its latest wares and technologies to any interested fellow entrepreneurs. It’s a method widely employed at international ICT exhibitions. The theme of this year’s ICT Expo is: ‘Asia ICT Connection: Global Collaboration in ICT Trade, Investment and Development.’ Its aim is to showcase the potential Thailand has for competition in ICT industries and show its readiness to become the leader in the Southeast Asian region.
