JVCJVC UK Ltd is introducing its latest Miniature series camcorder. The GR-DVP9 is JVC’s latest addition to the pocket-sized MiniDV camcorder category which it created with the launch of the GR-DV1 in 1996. Since then, JVC’s Miniature-series camcorders have won critical acclaim and wide consumer acceptance. The GR-DVP9 inherits the flat, streamlined, ultra-compact design concept of its predecessors, while adding extra features and improving performance still further. The GR-DVP9 incorporates a 1.33 Megapixel, High-Sensitivity CCD imaging chip, that delivers a horizontal resolution of 540 lines. It is also equipped with a USB interface that can stream MPEG-1 data to a PC.

The USB interface provides a wide range of computer-based functionality, including Video CD creation, video clip creation, Web-camera webcasting, and digital still image capture. The GR-DVP9 has a built-in digital still camera, delivering HG (High Grade) digital stills and MPEG-4 video clips that can be saved on a memory card. The GR-DVP9 is supplied with an 8MB MultiMediaCard.

With its flat surface and compact, lightweight design - the GR-DVP9 weighs just 350g excluding battery and tape - this ultra-stylish camcorder is ready to be taken just about anywhere. The flat surface, devoid of all unnecessary protrusions, means the user can pop the camera in a handbag or even a jacket pocket without any snags when taking it out. With an integrated lens cover, and brushed aluminium body with ergonomic button layout, the GR-DVP9 Miniature is the epitome of style and utility.

The GR-DVP9 Miniature incorporates a high-density, 1/4-inch, 1.33 megapixel CCD that is designed to optimise the capabilities of the MiniDV format and ensure optimum quality digital stills. It also sports a Super High-Band Processor that intelligently calculates and restores the high-band components of the luminance signal that would be lost in conventional processing, to help raise the horizontal resolution to up to 540 lines.

The GR-DVP9 also features a built-in Digital Still Camera function that enables the user to shoot HG Digital Stills, with 4 selectable image size settings (1600x1200*/1280x960/1024x768/ 640x480-pixel) and store them on a memory card. (An 8MB MultiMediaCard is provided.) There’s also an MPEG-4 Email Video Clip recording function that also stores files on the MultiMediaCard. Stored data can be quickly transferred via USB with on-screen icon access. Alternatively, the memory card can be ejected from the camera and inserted into an optional Floppy Disk Adapter or PC Card Adapter for easy transfer of the data to a PC.

To make it easier to compose great shots, the camcorder has a high-resolution 2\" polycrystalline silicon colour LCD monitor that can be freely tilted for accurate and creative shooting. Easy, reliable shooting is also supported with a colour viewfinder that delivers clear and natural looking images.

For those situations where additional lighting is necessary, the GR-DVP9 is equipped with an Info-Shoe interface to allow slot-in attachment of an optional video light or other optional accessories, such as a stereo zoom microphone or flash.

And when you\'re finished recording, and its time to see the excellent results, the DV Navigation feature on the GR-DVP9 makes it a breeze. With this function, an index picture and counter information are stored on the memory card whenever you start shooting a new scene, or push the Index button, or at regular pre-settable intervals. To watch the video footage, the user simply calls up the Navigation screen and chooses the scene – the camera will automatically search for and play back the selected footage.

A DV input/output terminal (i.LINK, IEEE 1394 compliant) allows fast data transfer to or from a computer (equipped with DV board) or to or from another MiniDV unit for dubbing. The GR-DVP9 is also equipped with an analogue input that allows analogue video from an external source to be dubbed to the digital MiniDV format.

The GR-DVP9 Miniature is equipped with a USB interface, and comes bundled with software that facilitates a variety of creative and visual communication functions. The USB connection is capable of streaming MPEG-1 format video from the camcorder to a personal computer. Once it’s on the PC, the MPEG-1 data can be burned on to a CD-R/RW disc to create a Video CD that can be viewed on most DVD players. This is a neat and easy way to share videos with friends and family, without having to send the original tape. Alternatively, the MPEG-1 data files can be sent as Email attachments over the Internet.

For people who need a Web-camera to communicate in real-time with images and sound, the MPEG-1 video stream can be webcast over the Internet (using third party software such as Microsoft® Netmeeting™) for teleconferencing, surveillance or videotelephony. Naturally, digital stills can also be captured from the camera’s playback footage or live video stream at the PC. The USB interface on these new video cameras makes them ideal tools for gathering digital source material, which can be freely edited and processed on a PC, and authored as a final work using the provided software.

The GR-DVP9 Miniature comes bundled with image management and manipulation software. Digital Photo Navigator is for still image transfer, easy image re-sizing and HTML Web file creation, as well as data library management, slideshows and movie file creation. ImageMixer with VCD1.1 s a powerful multi-application program that takes care of everything from image and sound capture, file management (including stills, movies and sound), to easy, non-linear MPEG-1 editing, complete with scene transitions, MPEG-1 recording of live camera images directly on a computer’s hard disk, and authoring of Video CDs. In addition, essential utilities such as a USB Video Streaming Driver are provided.

The introduction of this powerful, compact Miniature camcorder further strengthens JVC’s extensive MiniDV line-up, and gives consumers a wider choice of models to match their tastes and lifestyles. The GR-DVP9 is the latest manifestation of JVC’s enormously successful vertical camcorder range, which it pioneered many years ago. As such, it maintains the design concept of sleek surfaces without protrusions, while upgrading the level of performance once again. Consumers can slip the GR-DVP9 into a pocket, bag or briefcase, grab their notebook PC, and step into the world of mobile image and sound communication, without a second thought. Made to go, and here to stay, the JVC Miniature is the communications solution of choice for an active new generation of consumers.
