Steve's DigicamsPentax Optio W10 at Steves Digicams : Our good friends at Steves Digicams have published their review of the Pentax Optio W10 digital camera. The Pentax W10 is a 6.0 effective Megapixels compact digital camera that packs a 2.5 inch LCD monitor and a 3X optical zoom lens into a slim designed body. The Pentax Optio W10 has been made more convenient and user-friendly with the addition of the new Face Recognition AF/AE function, which detects people's faces in the picture frame and adjusts the focus and exposure accordingly. The Pentax Optio W10 was developed based on the Pentax Optio WP series, which realizes the waterproof functionality for underwater photography without requiring a waterproof case or other accessories.

According to Steve Digicams: "Ergonomics are good for a compact model. The size allows it to be carried just about anywhere, and thanks to the waterproof rating, you can even take it for a dip in the pool. The various controls on the back of the camera are well placed and functional, and the Menu system was very easy to navigate. The large 2.5-inch LCD worked well when shooting outdoors, even in the bright sunlight. However, the display fails to "gain up" which did make it difficult to use in marginal lighting."

Pentax Optio W10 review conclusion - Steves Digicams
Steve continues: "Our samples showed good overall exposure when shooting outdoors, and color saturation was good for a consumer model. Thanks in part to its Pentax 3x optical zoom lens, the majority of our shots were nice and sharp, with only slight edge softness present. One of the most important aspects of image quality for this specific camera, is its underwater results. I was very surprised at how well it captured images in the water. Shooting samples in our bathtub of some toy frogs showed the W10 can capture sharp images, with good flash exposure as long as the subject is about 1.5 - 2 feet away."
