Lexar Media introduced JumpGear-MP3, a unique digital audio player that utilizes Lexar Media's JumpDrive Sport USB flash drive as its storage medium. JumpGear-MP3 is a next generation portable device that increases the functionality of JumpDrive Sport, and capitalizes on the surging popularity of both digital music and USB flash drives. Using JumpDrive Sport as the memory source allows users to upgrade memory to 512MB with a single JumpDrive Sport, or carry several JumpDrives, each with its own collection of music. The USB 2.0 speed of JumpDrive Sport makes downloading large music files fast and easy, and the writable file label on the back of the flash drive allows users to organize multiple music collections with ease.

"Add-on accessories that expand the functionality and accelerate additional usage of flash drives will lead the next wave of innovation in the category, and Lexar is once again pleased to be at the forefront of innovation," said Jim Gustke, Lexar Media, General Manager of Marketing. "With this introduction, we are providing increased functionality and fun to an already incredibly useful product, and maximizing consumers’ USB flash drive investment."
JumpGear-MP3 is a full-featured MP3 player that is ergonomically designed to fit comfortably in the palm of the hand. The player supports the popular MP3 and WMA music formats, and Microsoft's digital rights management, so users can play music purchased from many online music services. It features a backlit LCD displaying song title, artist, playtime and track number, and an equalizer with five preset modes: normal, jazz, pop, rock, and classic music. The device has 3 playback modes, normal, repeat and random, and continuous playtime of up to 14 hours.
"With JumpGear-MP3 and JumpDrive Sport, our customers can store and listen to their favourite music wherever they are, in addition to carrying or transferring business documents, schoolwork, photographs, or other information," said Dave Klenske, Lexar Media, Director of Product Marketing. "Many people already use JumpDrives to transfer music files, so it made sense for Lexar to offer an add-on MP3 player to provide them with a complete digital audio system."
Beginning in February 2004, JumpGear-MP3 will be sold in two configurations, one including a 64MB JumpDrive Sport and another as a stand-alone accessory for JumpDrive Sport. Both configurations will include headphones and 2 AAA batteries. To increase the memory of the digital audio player, users can purchase additional JumpDrive Sport flash drives which will be available this January. |
