Canon Digital IXUS 60 review : Canon are moving along rapidly. Besides wanting to have a large market share in each segment of the digital imaging market, Canon are naturally also keen to hold the actual number one position, and it seems they are well on the way to achieve it all. This is only emphasised by the introductions of their new products; there seems to be an incessant flow of camera arrivals. At the moment, the cycle for consumer compact cameras is six months. The Canon Digital IXUS 60 was introduced in February 2006 and carries on the IXUS tradition. With its attractive design, a compact format and a housing made from high-quality material, the Canon Digital IXUS seems destined to score major points for Canon once again.

Canon IXUS 60 camera - ISO settings
Stylish compact cameras are generally used indoors, at parties and in other low light situations where the use of the flash can spoil the ambience of the scene. The Canon IXUS 60 incorporates ISO 800 to facilitate flash-free shooting indoors and minimise the effects of camera shake. A new High ISO Auto setting automatically sets exposure using the higher range of ISO sensitivities, prioritising faster shutter speeds for reduced image blur. Dedicated ISO buttons on the Canon IXUS 60 digital camera allows quick switching between ISO settings.
Canon Digital IXUS 60 - Digital photo effects
Furthermore, the IXUS 60 features Canon's My Colours photo effects, which can now be applied both before and after shooting images, offering users more opportunities to customise their creations without having to connect to a PC. The Canon Digital IXUS 60 offers 16 shooting modes including a Manual mode, which enables selection of ISO, white balance and other exposure settings. Preset scene modes assist with tricky lighting conditions, including an Underwater mode for shooting underwater with the optional Waterproof Case. Colour Accent and Colour Swap modes enable dramatic colour effects to be applied to both images and movies without the need for a PC or image manipulation software.
Canon Digital IXUS 60 camera - Zoom lens
Canon's UA lens was the world's first ultra-high refractive index glass moulded aspherical lens. Made from glass with a higher refractive index than other aspherical lenses, it allows for an exceptionally slim and compact lens unit. The glass moulded aspherical shape delivers great image quality and avoids image aberration that can occur with aspherical lens designs.

Canon IXUS 60 digital camera - Wide-screen 16:9 mode
The Canon IXUS 60 is also equipped with a new wide-screen 16:9 mode, which enables the user to capture true wide-screen images. This seems to be a rising trend, and shows how certain manufacturers feel about the camera and its place in multimedia surroundings, which is how they like to think of the modern living room.
Canon IXUS 60 digital camera review
The Canon Digital IXUS 60 is a luxurious digital compact camera, of which the emphasis lies not solely on design and the compact size. The photo quality and powerful image processing solutions, which come in the form of a DIGIC II processor, are of significant importance for this digital camera. The first impression is pleasant, but it was in practice that we were able to form our ultimate opinion on how the Canon IXUS 60 should be judged. Just how our judgement turned out can be read in the following Canon Digital IXUS 60 digital camera review.
