Canon PowerShot SD550 review at Photoxels : DIWA member Yin Wong from Photoxels has reviewed the Canon PowerShot SD550 digital camera. The Canon SD550 camera boasts DIGIC II processing, and a large 2.5 inch LCD. The Canon PowerShot SD550 has 7.1 Megapixels and 3x optical zoom. The large LCD with wide viewing angle makes it easier to view, share images and movies during playback. The big LCD also makes it easier for the user to frame their shot and view menus. With 9-point AiAF, the camera automatically focuses on the subject, even when it is off-centre. iSAPS intelligence ensures that the Canon PowerShot SD 550 digital camera assess the scene and adjust the settings to achieve the optimum results.

Canon SD550 camera - Noise reduction
According to Yin Wong: "To test this noise reduction algorithm, we take a low-light indoors shot using a long shutter speed of 8 sec. The NR works quite well. The AF worked very well in low-light, and the AF-assist Illuminator made for precise and fast focus lock (again, depends on how contrast your subject is). Overall, very good to excellent image quality for a 7.1MP digital camera: sharp pictures, very good image detail (though some detail loss is apparent depending on the subject matter), vibrant colours, well-exposed.
Canon PowerShot SD550 digital camera - Operation
Yin Wong continues: "Real manual mode is when the camera allows the photographer to select both the shutter speed and aperture, besides everything else for that matter. The M mode on the Canon SD550 simply does not. On the whole, it just serves to confuse and probably even intimidate the intended audience of Point-and-Shoot users, and simply irk more advanced photographers. A marketing misstep that Canon will surely correct in future versions of the Digital ELPH. You want to learn more about the Canon PowerShot camera? About Photoxels
Photoxels was founded in 2002 by MyKhanh Wong (Owner, Editor) and Yin Wong (Contributing Editor), the editors behind Photoxels. In 2001, we went on the Web to learn about digital cameras like everyone else. But it seems that the more we read about digital cameras, the more reviews we scrutinized, and the more we searched... the more confused we became. If we were somewhat confused about which digital cameras to buy before visiting the digital camera review sites, we became even more confused after reading most of the (very) technical reviews. Slowly, one article and one review at a time, we pieced together what were really important to know about digital cameras and clarified many of the digital photography-related terminology. We decided to share what we learned on the Internet, and Photoxels was born.
