Canon Digital IXUS 55 review at PhotographyBLOG : DIWA member Mark Goldstein from PhotographyBLOG has reviewed the Canon IXUS 55 digital camera. The Canon IXUS 55 camera boasts DIGIC II processing, and a large 2.5 inch LCD. The Canon Digital IXUS 55 has 5.0 Megapixels and 3x optical zoom. The large LCD with wide viewing angle makes it easier to view and share images and movies during playback. The big LCD also makes it easier for the user to frame their shot and view menus. Canon’s renowned DIGIC II processor ensures that the images recorded have superb resolution and colour quality, as well as giving improved camera performance overall. With 9-point AiAF, the camera automatically focus on the subject, even when it is off-centre.

Canon IXUS 55 - Noise and Macro
According to Mark Goldstein: "There is virtually no discernible noise at the slowest settings of ISO 50 and 100, but there's already quite a lot of noise at ISO 200 and the image quality has deteriorated a lot at ISO 400. The Canon Digital IXUS 55 dealt well with chromatic aberrations, which only appeared a few of the test shots, limited purple fringing effects could only be seen in high contrast situations. Macro performance is above average, allowing you to focus as close as 3 cms away from the subject.
Canon Digital IXUS 55 camera - Review conclusion
Mark continues: "Focusing is very quick in good light and the camera happily achieves focus indoors or in low-light situations, helped by a powerful focus-assist lamp. The visibility and refresh rate of the 2.5 inch LCD screen are perfectly acceptable, although the resolution is a little on the low side. The IXUS 55 is a tiny camera that both looks great and works well, with a number of innovative features on offer. On paper it doesn't seem to offer anything different to a lot of other, cheaper cameras - 3x optical zoom lens, 7 Megapixel sensor, large 2.5 inch LCD screen - but pick the IXUS 55 up and there is an undeniable sense of quality which far exceeds the competition." About PhotographyBLOG
Mark Goldstein started his very active website PhotographyBLOG in January 2003. At first the one and only purpose was to let this site function as one of those popular web logs with Photography as main topic. But as we all know Photography is a pretty big subject to publish about so Mark decided to focus on some hot key points like mentioning all new introductions, reviews, reports from events like PMA and Photokina, sharing some impressive and creative photos and Mark's sole perspective of his feeling about this fascinating world of Digital Imaging. Mark is based in the UK, but his eagle-eye focuses global.
