CanonCanon sponsers World Press Photo event in Sydney : Canon Australia announced that the winners of the prestigious international contest in professional press photography, World Press Photo, will be exhibited in Australia in May. The exhibition, which is brought to Sydney by World Press Foundation global sponsor, Canon, includes stunning and often times confronting images from all over the world. Showcasing the best of photojournalism, the exhibition brings to public attention images that are often censored by the media because of the harsh realities they convey. This exhibition shows us the value in news images and allows us entry into the world of the press photographer, revealing the journey they travel to bring us their stories.

World Press Photo of the Year 2005
Winning World Press Photo of the Year 2005 is an image showing the emaciated fingers of a one-year-old child pressed against the lips of his mother at an emergency feeding clinic in Niger. A devastating swarm of locusts and the worst drought in decades left millions of people short of food in the African state. The picture was taken in Tahoua, northwestern Niger, on 1 August 2005. The winner, Canadian photographer Finbarr O'Reilly of Reuters, will receive a cash prize of 10,000 euro (A$16,000) and Canon will donate an EOS-1D Mark II N SLR camera.
