Lasts year HP introduced their 5 Megapixel Photosmart 945. This camera features a total resolution of 5.3 Megapixels and 8x optical zoom. Combined with a digital zoom the total zoom ends up at 56x. The HP Photosmart 945 digital camera is HP’s first digital camera to feature HP’s Adaptive Lighting Technology, a innovative technology that enables digital cameras to produce photos that look more like what consumers see with their own eyes. It relates the brightness to the bright and dark areas in a photo, preserving gentle contrasts while compressing harsh contrasts. The result is automatic contrast adjustment that lightens poorly illuminated objects and produces a true-to-life image.

According to DCViews: "Powering on the camera takes about 4 to 5 seconds as the lens has to be extended before the camera is ready to go. Shutter lag is almost non-existent. After pre-focusing by pressing the shutter half way, the image is taken instantly", "Auto focus works well, though it is not as fast as on some other cameras" and "Image quality is excellent for such a relatively inexpensive digital camera, making it ideal for point and shoot users who will appreciate the fact that the camera can be used on automatic all the time and still deliver quality images. For more experienced users there are several features that offer manual control but without the complexity often associated with more upmarket prosumer models."
