Nikon P3 at Steves Digicams : Our good friends at Steves Digicams have published their review of the Nikon Coolpix P3. The Nikon P3 features a 1/1.8-inch CCD with 8.1 effective Megapixels. Additionally the Nikon Coolpix P3 incorporates Nikon's innovative VR (Vibration Reduction) capability. VR Normal compensates for the minor movements that can happen all too easily during handheld shooting, while VR Active compensates for more pronounced movements, so you can even achieve rock-steady results while shooting from a moving vehicle, for example. The Nikon P3 offers Aperture-priority Auto mode to let photographers benefit from aperture control in 1/3EV steps, so they can select large apertures for attractive background blurring.

Nikon P3 - Design and Optical zoom
According to Steve Digicams: "The 11 wide-area AF achieves more accurate autofocus through analysis of a larger area of the frame. Auto focus is handled by a contrast detect TTL system with a low light AF-assist lamp, the focus range is from 12 in. (30cm) to infinity in normal, 1.6 in. (4cm) to infinity in Macro mode (wide angle). Auto focus can be single-AF or Continuous-AF with Auto area selection, Center-focus area selection or Manual area selection available."
Nikon P3 - Steves Digicams review conclusion
Steve continues: "The large 2.5-inch color LCD with 150,000 pixels of resolution serves as the viewfinder as well as for reviewing your images and movies and accessing the menu screens. In lower light conditions the LCD will "gain up" for better framing and provides 100% coverage. The screen is coated with a non-glare finish and offers a wide viewing angle even in the bright sunlight. The MENU button calls up and dismisses menu screens. The interface connector is a combination device used to connect either the USB 1.1 cable for downloading images to the host computer or connect the Audio-Video Out cable to a TV set. In the same way the reviews are being written. According to Steve, it should not be necessary to follow a course in photography to be able to understand a review. For this approach Steve is well known world wide and he is welcome to it by his many readers. Beside test reports Steve's site has various other items, like a forum, camera specifications, daily "breaking" news.
