SonySony Cybershot cameras at PMA 2006 : According to a publication on the Sony Centre website - www.sonycenter.lu - we may soon expect new Sony Cybershot digital cameras to be announced. PMA 2006 is getting closer so we would not be surprised if the introduction is made this week. The site mentions the Sony Cybershot DSC-H5 model. According to the (unofficial) information the Sont DSC-H5 features 7 Megapixels, Super Steady Shot, a large 3-inch LCD display and a 12x Carl Zeiss optical zoom lens. The Sony Cybershot H2 is another new model featuring 6 Megapixel, 2-inch LCD and 12x Carl Zeiss optical zoom. Other models that are mentioned are the Sony Cybershot DSC-W100, Sony Cybershot DSC-W70 and the Sony Cybershot DSC-W40 cameras.
Sony Cybershot cameras at PMA 2006Sony Cybershot DSC-H5 - 7 Megapixel
The name of Sony Cybershot DSC-H5 suspects a follow-up of the Sony H1 that was introduced a year ago. The unofficial specifications states that the Sony H5 features a 7 Megapixel effective CCD image sensor, Carl Zeiss 12x Zoom, Super Steady Shot, 3.0-inch color screen LCD and a high ISO sensitivity of 1000 ISO. Furthermore the Sony Cybershot H5 offers USB 2.0 Hi-Speed interface and 32MB internal memory. The Sony Centre website indicates that this model will be available in May 2006.

Sony Cybershot DSC-H2 - Super Steady Shot and Carl Zeiss
Besides the introduction of the Sony H5 the publication also mentioned the Sony Cybershot DSC-H2 model. Probably the same body and lens, the specifications state the same Carl Zeiss 12x optical zoom, but a lower effective CCD image sensor resolution of 6 Megapixels. Additionally the Sony H2 captures still images (6MP) and video (MPEG Movie: 640x480 VX Fine w/audio at 30fps). For power the Sony Cybershot DSC-H2 runs on a rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery. The website targets the new model at €399. The Sony H2 will be available in May 2006.

Sony Cybershot DSC-W100 - LCD and USB interface
Yet unofficial, but clearly mentioned all over the Internet is the Sony Cybershot DSC-W100 camera. This compact digital camera offers 8 Megapixel effective CCD image sensor and a 3x optical Carl Zeiss zoom lens. According to the list of specifications we learn that this model features 64MB internal memory and a 2.5-inch LCD display. Furthermore the Sony W100 incorporates a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 interface for ultra-fast data transfer from camera to notebook or desktop. Sony indicates for the Cybershot W100 a price of €359. The camera should be available in April 2006.

Sony Cybershot DSC-W70 - CCD image sensor and MPEG 4
Well it is almost getting boring but another W-series will be introduced for Spring 2006. The Sony W70 features a 7 Megapixel effective CCD image sensor and is able to capture MPEG-4 video in a resolution of 640x480 with audio at 30fps. Some days ago Sony introduced the Sony W30 en W50 models, both offering 6 Megapixels and a 2.5 and 3.0 inch display. It seems that for now the P-series will be transformed into the W-series? The Sony Cybershot DSC-W70 features 64MB internal memory which, of course, can be enlarged with an external Memory Stick. The unofficial price for the Sony Cybershot is €290 and availability is March 2006.

Sony Cybershot DSC-W40 - LCD display and PictBridge
In between the Sony DSC-W30 and DSC-W50 there is room for another W-model, the Sony Cybershot W40. According to the information that is published on the Sony Centre website the new Sony W40 features 6 Megapixels and a Carl Zeiss optical zoom lens. The Carl Zeiss brand name is now standard on the Sony Cybershot digital cameras, at least according to the information that has been available at this moment. The Sony Cybershot DSC-W40 offers a smaller LCD display, 2-inch and less internal memory, 32MB. The price should be €240 and the camera will be available in March 2006.

Sony digital SLR camera
On March 31 2006, Sony will receive certain assets from Konica Minolta PI that are necessary for the development, design, production and so forth of digital SLR cameras compatible with Konica Minolta PI's Maxxum/Dynax lens mount system (an original lens mount system to connect camera body and lens adopted in Konica Minolta Maxxum/Dynax series SLR cameras) Sony will accelerate development of new digital SLR cameras based on and compatible with the Maxxum/Dynax lens mount system with a view to marketing these models this summer.
