PanasonicPanasonic Lumix DMC TZ1 : Panasonic is pleased to introduce the new Lumix 5-megapixel DMC-TZ1, the world’s smallest 10x optical zoom digital camera. The powerful 10x optical zoom Leica DC lens is incorporated into a compact, easy-to-carry body, made possible by the world’s first example of the integration of a retractable lens system with folded optics technology. Like other models in the Lumix digital camera series, the Panasonic TZ1, of course, features Mega O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer), which has now become a standard feature for all digital cameras in the market. Hand-shake has always been a critical issue in certain photographic situations such as long zoom shots, low-light indoor, night time and macro shooting.
Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ1Panasonic TZ1 - Venus Engine III
With even the slightest hand-shake can spoil the captured image. However, Mega O.I.S. helps you to take clear, beautiful pictures without any picture quality deterioration. An additional boost to the Panasonic TZ1’s performance is the newly developed image processing LSI, the Venus Engine III, which detects both chromatic and luminance noise separately and suppresses only the chromatic noise levels, which drastically reduce image quality, as a result, shooting at ISO 800 in full resolution is made possible.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 - High resolution LCD Display
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 has an intuitively bright 2.5” large, high resolution (207k pixels) LCD which offers clear and easy viewing, even in low-light situations, by automatically increasing the brightness levels as appropriate. Furthermore, the Panasonic TZ1 also boasts a recording capacity of 250 pictures (CIPA) on a single charge, thanks to the advanced Venus Engine III which consumes only 80% of the power utilized by the Venus Engine II, despite the camera’s significantly improved performance levels. In terms of the camera’s response time, the release time lag is as short as 0.006 sec. minimum and the shutter interval is approx. 0.5 sec. Additionally, the adoption of a Linear AF system further quickens the AF function, which has already been highly evaluated for its rapid response time in other Lumix camera models. The Panasonic digital camera starts up in an industry-leading 0.95 sec., placing it ahead of the pack of other high zoom cameras in the market. In the burst shooting mode, with the TZ1 is possible to shoot at three frames per second in full resolution. It also allows unlimited consecutive shooting up to the capacity of the built-in memory or the SD memory card.

Panasonic DMC TZ1 - Multi-purpose digital camera
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 is quite literally a “multi-purpose” camera, ready to shoot in a wide and diverse array of photographic situations, with its powerful 10x optical zoom and dual image stabilization system of Mega O.I.S. and high sensitivity. With its supremely compact size, it offers maximum portability as your perfect travel companion for you to keep and cherish those precious memories.

Panasonic Lumix TZ1 - 10x optical zoom camera
The lens part of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 features the world’s first integration of a retractable lens system with folded optics technology realized by the inclusion of a prism. It also incorporates three aspherical lenses, the crystallization of Panasonic optics technology, all resulting in an amazingly powerful 10x optical zoom Leica DC Vario-Elmarit lens contained within a compact body. The zoom ratio can be extended up to 12.5x in 3-megapixel resolution mode thanks to the Extra Optical Zoom function which gives extra magnification (and minimal image deterioration) by intentionally using the centre part of the CCD. Furthermore, in combination with the 4x digital zoom, a zoom factor of up to 50x can be achieved.

Panasonic Lumix TZ1 - Optical Image Stabilizer
Mega O.I.S.(Optical Image Stabilizer), deemed by Panasonic as indispensable for all digital cameras, is featured on the entire Panasonic Lumix range and, having been highly evaluated and appreciated by the users across the world, has now become a standard requirement within the digital imaging arena. It compensates for hand-shake by shifting the O.I.S. lens unit to keep the optical axis aligned straight against the CCD, ensuring that the image is always captured sharply. As a result, Mega O.I.S. produces beautiful pictures, free from blur and with no deterioration of image quality, at slower shutter speeds of more than 3 steps compared to other conventional models which do not have O.I.S. You can enjoy shooting subjects at long distance with the powerful zoom, as well as in low-light conditions when shutter speeds tend to slow, without worrying about image blur. It is now surprisingly easy for you to take clear, beautiful telephoto pictures, indoor portraits or illuminated night-time scenes.

Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ1 - Improved noise reduction
Furthermore, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 allows shooting at a manually adjustable sensitivity setting of up to ISO 800 in full resolution, thanks to the greatly improved noise reduction levels which are achieved by the separate detection of both chromatic and luminance noise by the newly developed high performance image processor, the Venus Engine III. This results in a broadening of your photographic horizons as you are now able to take advantage of high shutter speeds which suppress image blur caused by subject movement, such as children and pets, especially indoors.

Panasonic TZ1 digital camera - High Sensitivity settings
Thanks to this powerful combination of image stabilization technology, both hand-shake and subject movement, the two major causes of image blur, are compensated for. With the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1, thanks to Mega O.I.S. and High Sensitivity settings, you can take clear and sharp shots in a wide variety of situations.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 - High Quality Image Processing LSI
The engine, the brain of the Panasonic digital camera, which drives high picture quality and quick response time, is the newly developed image processing LSI, the Venus Engine III. The Venus Engine III inherits the conventional Venus Engine II’s quick response times and high quality image output, yet dramatically reduces noise levels even at increased ISO settings. Shooting at up to a manually selectable ISO800 setting, in full resolution, it is possible to enhance your photographic potential by being able to take advantage of high shutter speeds. Furthermore, despite the significantly increased performance capabilities of the camera, the Venus Engine III consumes only 80% of power utilized by the Venus Engine II and is able to achieve a long battery life of 250 pictures (CIPA) on a single charge.

Panasonic DMC TZ1 - Multi-task image processing
With its multi-task image processing capabilities, the Venus Engine III also boasts outstanding response time with a industry-leading shutter release time lag of only 0.006 sec minimum and a shutter interval of approx. 0.5 sec (Not including the time for AF), which enables easy capture of those spur-of-the-moment shots. In the burst shooting mode, it is possible to shoot at three frames per second in full resolution (Max. five images in standard mode/ three images in fine mode). The TZ1 also allows unlimited consecutive shooting up to the capacity of the built-in memory or the SD memory card (The speed of the consecutive shooting varies depending on the memory card. The number of recordable pictures depends on the memory card size, battery life, picture size and image compression.).

Panasonic Lumix TZ1 - High Angle Function
The Panasonic TZ1 has a high resolution (207K pixels), 2.5” large LCD. The pixel-mixed readout method performed by the CCD automatically increases the brightness level of the live image on the LCD, which greatly facilitates shooting in low light situations. The new High Angle mode makes the display extremely easy to view from low angles, for example, when holding the camera up high to take pictures over a crowd and can be accessed easily and quickly by using the dedicated button. With the help of the Power LCD function, which boosts the backlighting of the LCD by 40%, even shooting in bright outdoors situations is no longer a problem. This high-resolution LCD also allows both a full display of your images in up to 25 thumbnails on a multi-split screen and also the ability to date search an image with the Calendar Display mode.

Panasonic TZ1 camera - Linear AF System
The Panasonic TZ1 is the first Lumix digital camera model to adopt a Linear AF system and, combined with the high speed AF function which has already been evaluated for its rapid response times in other Panasonic Lumix models, achieves, among high zoom digital cameras, an industry-leading high speed AF response time. In addition to the increased focusing times, the noise of the motor is also reduced and it is now even possible to zoom in while recording motion images. The superior AF capabilities also enable an increased speed in continuous AF, allowing easy and precise focusing even when shooting moving subjects. Together with the TZ1’s overall quick response time and the power of the Venus Engine III, this linear AF system also contributes to the short startup time of 0.95 sec. As a result, stress free photography with never a moment missed.

Panasonic Lumix TZ1 - Wide VGA Motion Image Recording
Clear, Bright, Wide VGA Motion Image Recording for Viewing on Wide Screen TV
In addition to standard VGA (640x480) at 30 fps motion image recording, the TZ1 also records stunning full-size movies in wide-aspect VGA (848x480) at 30 fps, enabling you to view them on your wide screen TV. The brightness level of these motion images is also enhanced as a result of the pixel-mixed readout method performed by the CCD. Zooming in while recording motion images is also possible thanks to the linear AF system, while image clarity is secured by the Optical Image Stabilizer.

Panasonic TZ1 digital camera - Variety of Features
The Panasonic TZ1 features a total of 18 scene modes (Not including Macro Mode) to assist you in a wide range of photographic situations. “High Sensitivity (Resolution significantly decreases in High Sensitivity mode).” mode, one of the scene modes made possible by the pixel-mixed readout method by the CCD, is ideal for shooting moving subjects clearly without blurring at a maximum sensitivity setting of ISO1600. The newly incorporated “Beach” mode is perfect for shooting in strong sunlight and the “Aerial” mode assists with shooting through the windows of an aeroplane. Additionally, there is the ”Under Water” mode which, when shooting with the separately available marine case, helps produce spectacular underwater shots.
