CanonCanon Pro Football Hall of Fame photo contest winner : Doug Richards of Salem, Ohio is the winner of the Canon and Pro Football Hall of Fame Amateur's "Catch the Impossible" Photo Challenge for his photo of son Matthew playing youth football. Richards wins a trip for four to attend Super Bowl XL in Detroit and will earn a once in a lifetime opportunity to have his photo displayed in The Pro Football Hall of Fame, in Canton. In addition, he wins a trip for four to the 2006 Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Celebration in June 2006. Richards took the winning photo during his son's football game for the United Local Eagles. Matthew, a pint-sized halfback, was photographed being tackled and stretching the ball out for a first down.

"I'm extremely excited to have won the Canon and Pro Football Hall of Fame's photography contest," said Richards. "I'm very grateful to Canon and the Pro Football Hall of Fame for making my dream of attending Super Bowl XL with my sons a reality and for displaying my photograph in the Hall of Fame." This nationwide contest featured two entry categories, "Action" and "Feature," allowing football and photography fans to capture the passion and excitement of youth football by submitting photos of any youth, middle school or high school football game. The "Action" category focused on any image that captured football action during game play and the "Feature" category is any football imagery not including game action on the field. Photo submissions were accepted from September 1 to December 9, 2005.

The judging panel included some of the world's top sports photographers including Peter Read Miller from Sports Illustrated and a Canon Explorer of Light, Craig Melvin, from US Presswire, John Reid III, the Cleveland Browns team photographer, Mark Duncan from the Associated Press, and Tony Tomsic, a freelance sports photographer who has shot every Super Bowl to date. The committee selected Richards as the Grand Prize winner from five other finalists in the contest including Aldolfo Villanueva, San Diego, CA; James Seward, Butler, NJ; Maria Gamble, Flanders, NJ; Jessyel Gonzalez, Denver, CO; and Peter Whittlesey, Sacramento CA.
