PentaxPentax UK Celebrates 25 Years : This year marks the celebration of Pentax UK’s 25th anniversary. A subsidiary of the Pentax Corporation of Japan, it formally established in the UK in 1979 to directly market Pentax products and services, embracing a brand that had enjoyed an envied reputation for continued innovation in the field of optical technology since the 1950s. Pentax has always focused on ‘world-firsts’, using the skill and expertise of its people to enhance the public’s experience of optical technology. This has always been Pentax’s mission and, since coming to the UK, the company has introduced a number of products and technologies that have broken the mould and gone on to set industry benchmarks. In 1986 Pentax marketed the Zoom 70, the world’s first zoom compact camera. This was the year that also saw the introduction of the first-ever video bronchoscope. Just a year later Pentax developed the first auto-focus SLR with built-in-flash, the SFX, and in 1994 the company was the first CCTV lens manufacturer to achieve ISO 9000 accreditation. In 2001, Pentax’s surveying division developed the world’s first total station to combine reflectorless technology with auto focus.
