She originally joined the industry and JPEA in 1980, after first working as an English teacher and traveling extensively in Europe. She came to JPEA as an assistant to the executive director and eventually became an editor of the publication then known as Photo Express News, now called PEN News Weekly. In 1984, she became secretary of JPEA and editor-in-chief of PEN, a role she held until acquiring her current position.
