NikonNikon D2X digital SLR review : When Nikon introduced the D2H reflex camera for the enhanced action/photojournalist; the world expected the camera to be followed by a D2X very promptly. This was the case with the D1 series and the Internet rumours made us expect the new flagship any minute. But while Canon reacted quickly with a fast camera equipped with high resolution, the Nikon users had to be patient and wait a bit longer until Nikon finally put the Nikon D2X on the market. The camera features some highly interesting functions just like we are used to from Nikon. The Nikon D2X holds a higher resolution than the D2H, mainly meant for speedy photography.

Following in the footsteps of the D2H, the D2X provides the same performance and design innovations combined with a Nikon DX-format image sensor that delivers a higher pixel-count. Improved image quality made possible by the higher pixel-count of the D2X is achieved by incorporating a new CMOS (Comple-mentary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) image sensor with an effective pixel-count of 12.4 megapixels.

Nikon D2X SLR - Continuous speed
Added to this, shooting speed in continuous shooting mode has been increased by using a 4-channel output method with the improvement of the speed of transferring image data from the image sensor to a memory card. This improvement allows the D2X to capture 12.4 Megapixel JPEG images or RAW image at a rate of 5 frames per second in continuous shooting mode. Continuous shooting at a rate of up to 8 frames per second is possible by using a High Speed Cropped function that crops the center of an image at 6.8 megapixel resolution.

Nikon D2X D-SLR camera - Total Imaging System
As part of Nikon's Total Imaging System, the D2X is compatible with Nikon's digital-exclusive DX Nikkor lenses as well as Nikon's 35mm/digital compatible AF Nikkor System. When used with the SB-800 or SB-600 Speedlights, the D2X also maximizes the potential of Nikon's Creative Lighting System with high precision flash performance including i-TTL flash control and support for Nikon's Advanced Wireless Lighting system.

Nikon D2X - Professional SLR camera
The Nikon D2X is mainly targeting at the professional user working under the most extreme circumstances. The appearance of the D2X exposes this by its built. The D2X is solidly built and provided with the necessary protection. Dust and moist don't get a chance to break into the internal part of the camera. Of course the sensor remains sensitive to dust but this can eventually be removed using a pair of bellows or special sensor brushes.

Nikon D2X review
With the D2X D-SLR Nikon has made it again for professional photographers and you will often spot the D2x working in the field! We were able to test the D2X extensively and our experiences with this camera can be read in the following Nikon d2X digital camera review.
