Pentax OptioWPi at Steves Digicams : Our good friends at Steves Digicams have published their review of the Pentax Optio WPi digital camera. The Pentax OptioWPi is providing the convenience of a large 2.0-inch LCD monitor and 6 effective Megapixels, and overall operational ease. The Pentax WPi camera complies with JIS class 8 waterproof performance, enabling it to withstand up to 30 minutes of continuous operation at an underwater depth of 1.5 meters. Despite its slim, flat body dimensions, the Pentax Optio WPi camera features a large, 2.0-inch LCD monitor with 115,000 pixels. The user can display 15 mode icons at once out of a total of 22, with the remaining 7 icons replacing the selected 15 on the user's command.

Pentax WPi - LCD and Shutter lag
According to Steve Digicams: "Outdoors I had no problems framing in bright sunlight, but indoors the display fails to "gain up" which sometimes made it difficult to frame the subject when in very dim lighting. Shooting performance was good for a camera in this price range. From power up to first image captured measured about 3.5 seconds. Shutter lag, the delay between depressing the shutter and capturing the image, was 1/10 of a second when pre-focused and 6/10 of a second including autofocus time."
Pentax Optio WPi - Steves Digicams review conclusion
Steve continues: "The WPi features a Pentax 3x optical zoom that helps produce sharp images throughout its range, with average barrel distortion at wide angle and slight pincushioning at full telephoto. Indoors it produced good results when shooting portraits of individuals from about 5 feet away, using the mid telephoto end of the lens. When doing so, flash exposure is good. Its macro focus mode works very well, allowing you to focus on subjects as close as 0.4 inches (0.6 meters.) It also does an excellent job of controlling the flash output to ensure your subject is not over exposed." You want to learn more about the Pentax digital camera? For this approach Steve is well known world wide and he is welcome to it by his many readers. Beside test reports Steve's site has various other items, like a forum, camera specifications, daily "breaking" news.
