Tak ImagingNew controllor increases the speed of photo printers : TAK Imaging, a leading provider of imaging processors and solutions for the consumer digital imaging and photo printing solutions market, announced the commercial availability of the TAK S1R, a single chip controller for the next generation of low-end photo printers and photo-enabled multi-function peripheral (MFP) devices. This ready-to-customize system-on-a chip (SOC) will drastically shorten design cycles and time-to-market for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and Original Device Manufacturers (ODMs), enabling them to provide consumers with a new selection of low-cost photo printers which create high quality prints in seconds.
New controllor increases the speed of photo printersDesigned for budget photo printers
The new TAK S1R is optimally designed for lower cost photo printers and MFPs and delivers the same high quality output performance as the company's flagship TAK S1 printer controller, which has been demonstrated to outperform currently available competitive solutions by four to five times in direct photo printing applications. The TAK S1R greatly increases the speed of photo prints - image processing performance for a 4 megapixel photo print has been measured at 2.4 seconds on a thermal dye printer and 4.6 seconds on a color inkjet. It also improves overall ease of use by facilitating user-interactive, printer-based image control and manipulation prior to printing, as well as provides seamless and convenient printing directly from multiple devices such as camera phones or digital still cameras.

Digital Camera market - Easy-to-use printing solutions
"The digital camera market has exploded in recent years and consumers are demanding convenient, easy-to-use printing solutions that will let them produce high-quality photos at home within seconds," said Doug Goodyear, TAK Imaging's chief executive officer. "TAK's commitment to meeting the needs of consumers and manufacturers alike is shown by the TAK S1R - a solution that is designed with cost, control and convenience in mind."

A Full-Featured Solution for low-end photo printers
A highly integrated and fully programmable single chip solution, the TAK S1R reduces the component count in a typical photo printer or MFP implementation. It employs a powerful image processing engine, which also supports customer-defined image algorithms, to guarantee uninterrupted data delivery to the print engine, whose open interface supports either inkjet or thermal print heads. The TAK S1R is fully software-compatible with the TAK S1, sharing the same PageExpress software system. This combination brings industry leading output speed and print quality normally associated with advanced printers to low-end photo printers, while minimizing overall printer controller costs.

Flexible scanner interface
Designed around a user programmable engine controller, the TAK S1R offers a variety of connectivity options. It has a flexible scanner interface optimized for MFPs and also supports PictBridge, which enables consumers to print photos directly from any digital camera, camera phone or PDA connected to the printer via USB 2.0 Hi-Speed cable.

Rapid Prototyping Platform
TAK S1R customer samples will be available this quarter. The TAK S1R Rapid Prototyping Platform (RPP S1R), which will be available during the beginning of the second quarter of 2006, will fully support the TAK S1R for thermal dye sublimation and inkjet printer prototyping. This will enable OEMs and ODMs to shorten their product development time to weeks from months, using the schematics, hardware and firmware supplied for a printer controller board. The platform includes low level drivers, APIs, and BSPs for the uITRON operating system, as well as drivers to control the board from the PC environment.
