Photokina program : Every two years, Photokina, the world’s leading trade fair for imaging technology and image communication, offers visitors an insight into the sector’s most innovative new products and trends. The exhibitors’ presentation of products and system solutions is accompanied by a target group-specific supporting program with an international outlook. The activities here range from international conferences that offer background information from the sector to contact forums and information centers for dealers and users, and events for the general public that draw attention to innovations in the world of digital imaging. The following is an confirmed outline of the supporting program events for Photokina 2006. |
Photokina Cologne - Digital gallery|
The new Hall 1 (formerly Hall 4) will become a meeting place for imaging professionals from around the world. Taking the slogan “By professionals for professionals,” the Visual Gallery and the areas “Meet the Professionals” and “Academy Meets photokina” will be brought together in Hall 1. A forum for international image agencies is being added as a new feature. This area will serve as a platform for international image agencies, specialist archives and news photo agencies to showcase their services to artists and art buyers from publishing houses, advertising agencies and the industrial sector.
Professional digital imaging - Commercial photography
Once again in 2006, the Meet the Professionals area will attract not only international image agencies and the renowned artists whose photos are on show at the Visual Gallery but also creative representatives of the photography, advertising, press, content services and electronic media sectors. In addition, the area will host a special highlight organized by the Fashion, Advertising and Industrial Photography Working Group (AWI): a female modeling contest in which the winners will receive the chance to launch a modeling career.
Photograpy project - Acedemy and College
The “Academy meets Photokina” section of Hall 1 will also serve as a source of inspiration. Here, colleges and academies from Germany and abroad will be presenting their latest photographic and imaging projects, exhibitions and degree projects. These will offer an interesting glimpse into the creative possibilities of digital imaging.
International Photokina show - Digital printing
The German Association of Print Publishers will be staging a panel discussion titled “Digital Printing: Innovative Products and Systems for the Imaging Market” with international participants. The experts taking part, who represent leading digital printing suppliers, will address the various options regarding the printing of digital consumer photos, as well as innovative products for largeformat professional printing. Also to be addressed is the role of the Internet in digital printing. The event will be chaired by Bernhard Niemela, editor in chief and Deputy Chairman of the German Association of Print Publishers.
Lifestyle media - Audio and Communication
Located in the “Audiovisual Presentation and Communication Technology” section of the new Hall 9, a new presentation platform will display real-life practical solutions for the convergence of information, communication and entertainment technology. Known as “lifestyle media at photokina,” it will focus on practical utility and comprehensive system solutions and applications. At the same time, it will reveal how these solutions can be professionally and efficiently implemented. Images will be at the heart of all the solutions
International Specialist Trade Center
The International Specialist Trade Center, which made its debut in 2004, will next year be even more closely aligned to the trade visitors’ needs. It offers visitors a first point of contact and helps them to plan their stay effectively and make the most of the time available. The center will be open each morning before the trade fair begins, providing dealers from all over the world with contact opportunities and information on products, the trade fair and the market. The Specialist Trade Center’s conceptual sponsor is the Federal Association of the Technical Retail Trade (BVT), which represents the interests of the photographic trade and the CE, IT and TC trades.
Photokina 2006 show - GfK market briefings
The GfK Market Briefings have always offered a wealth of information. Key data and background information, as well as detailed market and product group studies on various economic regions, from western and eastern Europe to Southeast Asia to the U.S., make the events organized by GfK Marketing-Services and Prophoto GmbH top priority dates for all dealers and industry representatives worldwide. In the morning before the trade fair opens, and in the evening after it has closed, participants gain valuable knowledge for their future investment and marketing strategies.
MediaVision Cologne symposium 2006
Since 2004, the topic “High-resolution images for cinema, television and AV production” has also been a component of the photokina supporting program. And the MediaVision Cologne symposium 2006, titled “Digital cinema - multimedia utilization in the fields of Cinema, Events, Home Cinema and Mobile TV”, addresses all the issues related to HD. In 2004, the academic symposium was successfully incorporated into the World of Imaging information program. The symposium will once again be held in cooperation with tried and tested partners, the Broadcasting Institute (IRT) and the Society of TV and Film Technology (FKTG).
Photokina digital imaging event - German Young Photographer prize
Young Imaging Days at photokina will feature activities focusing on all aspects of the creative use of digital cameras, PCs and the Internet, under the auspices of the Children's and Young People's Film Center (KJF). The Young Imaging Days program is also designed to appeal to professionals from the field of education, who will have the opportunity to learn about the new technologies at an expert forum. As in past years, the highlight of the Young Imaging Days will be the presentation of the German Young Photographer Prize.
Photokina show - Entertainment program
In 2004 they were an irresistible attraction: the birds of prey of the Hellenthal game preserve. And in 2006, the feathered aerial artists will be circling above the Piazza inside the new outdoor area at Koelnmesse, where it will be possible to watch them through highly sensitive binoculars from leading optics manufacturers.
Photokina photography - Guido Karp photographer
Images of the greatest stars of the rock and pop music scenes have been captured through his lens: At photokina 2006, the famous photographer Guido Karp will once again provide a detailed insight into the tools of his art. Ambitious hobby photographers will also have the chance to learn how to create professional-quality portraits using simple equipment. And in 2006, female visitors will of course once again enjoy the opportunity to be transformed by the leading stylist Ulrich Remus into a “Princess for one day,” before being photographed by the master himself, Guido Karp.
Photography 2006 event - Exhibition center
Photokina is, of course, all about images. So in 2006, works by many renowned photographers and up-and-coming talents will once again be presented at the fair, in addition to the exhibitions in the Visual Gallery. It’s sure to be an event that belongs on the “must see” lists of all who appreciate outstanding photography.
