Fujifilm integrates Fujifilm Microdevices : Fuji Photo Film announced that on March 31, 2006, Fujifilm Microdevices, a fully owned subsidiary that manufactures products such as the Super CCD, will be fully integrated with Fujifilm. The integration is designed to enhance the competitiveness of its digital camera business by consolidating the management of CCD manufacturing and digital camera development/manufacturing. At the same time, the move is designed to further improve capabilities for development and manufacturing technologies related to CCD Optical Module for electronic endoscopes and other devices. Fujifilm Microdevices has been engaged in the development and manufacturing of digital camera CCDs and signal processing LSI.

Fujifilm Microdevices - Super CCD
By combining a variety of proprietary technologies, FFM designed and manufactured the Super CCD. The Super CCD has octagonal- shaped pixels built into a tightly-knit honeycomb configuration. This achieves a larger pixel surface area, contributing to collecting more light than conventional CCDs. The combination of enlarged pixels and honeycomb configuration brings about a host of additional benefits, such as higher sensitivity and higher resolution.
Super CCD image sensor - Electronic Devices Laboratories
The Super CCD has contributed greatly to the development of Fujifilm“s digital camera. For example, higher sensitivity technology with the Super CCD represents its technological excellence, moving its Fujifilm“s digital cameras ahead of the competition. Amid intensifying competition, Fujifilm took initial steps to strengthen its competitiveness in the industry by integrating the CCD research and development functions of Fujifilm Microdevices and Fujifilm into newly established Electronic Devices Laboratories, in October 2004.
Fujifilm R&D - Optical module business
Further integration of CCD manufacturing functions of both companies allows Fujifilm to conduct CCD R&D and manufacturing as well as digital camera development and manufacturing under a single management structure. Under the new structure, Fujifilm will achieve strategic cost optimization and enable faster decision-making. Furthermore, the strengthened relationship between the two will lead to the strong developmental capabilities and manufacturing technologies related to CCD Optical Module for electronic endoscopes and other future devices. Harnessing proprietary developmental and technological capabilities, Fujifilm will continue to innovate high sensitivity technologies for CCDs, key devices for image capturing. Fujifilm plans to further expand its digital imaging business such as digital cameras and optical module businesses.
