Leica Digital M : According to an issue of Leica Fotografie International (LFI) Leica is developing a new high quality Leica digital camera. By meaning developing a new Leica the official word from Stefan Daniel, Chief of Product Management at Leica Camera AG, Solms, is that Leica is "complimenting and expanding the Leica M and R systems with digital components…". Although Leica always claimed that it would be impossible to develop a Leica Md due to technical details of the Leica lenses and the CCD or CMOS image sensors we may expect an official introduction of the Leica Digital M at Photokina 2006. As to our information the Digital M camera will feature 10+ Megapixels with a multiplier factor of 1.33x.

Leica Md - Digital M system
We welcome any new Leica digital camera introduction, however, history shows us that the actual availability is not that certain. Photokina 2006 will be the place to be to get a closer look at the first pre-production samples, but the availability may be in 2007. At this stage only very few information is available. As soon as we learn more about the new Leica Md, or Leica Digital M, we will give you an update. We may hear more from Kodak who supposes to be the manufacturer of the special developed image sensor of the new Leica digital camera.
