Canon PowerShot S80 review at Steves Digicams : Our good friends at Steves Digicams have published their review of the Canon PowerShot S80 digital camera. The Canon S80 incorporates a 8.0 Megapixel CCD image sensor and includes a wide-angle 28-100 mm f/2.8-5.3 (3.6x) optical zoom lens incorporating Canon’s UA lens technology, the same DIGIC II processor found in Canon’s professional series digital SLRs and an oversize 2.5-inch LCD. Advanced features of the PowerShot S80 include real-time histogram display, FlexiZone AF/AE with a freely movable focus point and manual focus override, 21 shooting modes, XGA quality video clips up to 1 GB in size and a new and improved user interface with a newly designed and positioned mode dial.

Canon S80 - Auto focus system
According to Steve Sanders: "If you value the wide angle end of your camera's zoom range, the Canon S80 is quite worthy of your interest. The S80's lens is not only versatile, it's sharp as well. Combined with Canon's excellent auto focus system, the lens produced very sharp results across most of the frame, although I noticed some softness at the corners throughout the zoom and aperture ranges. The Canon PowerShot S80's outdoor results were very good."
Canon PowerShot S80 - Steves Digicams review conclusion
Steve continues: "The S80 also performed very well indoors. The AF-assist function worked well at full wide angle in dim lighting, but was much less effective toward the telephoto end of the zoom range. Noise becomes detectable in shadow areas at ISO 100, and evident at ISO 200. At ISO 400, noise is present throughout the image, and a lot of fine detail is lost. 640x480 clips at 30 fps were smooth and good quality, while 1024x768 at 15fps were noticeably jumpy. The S80 would be a good companion to more versatile and complex digicams. You want to learn more about the Canon PowerShot digital camera?
