PhotoxelsOlympus Stylus 600 review at Photoxels : DIWA member Yin Wong from Photoxels has reviewed the Olympus Stylus 600 digital camera. The Olympus Stylus 600 incorporates a 6 Megapixel CCD image sensor and a precision 3x zoom lens (1:3.1-5.1, equivalent to 35-105mm in 35mm format). Image quality is further enhanced through incorporation of the powerful TruePic TURBO processor, which not only ensures the best results but also speeds up camera start-up and response times. 23 scene modes plus Programme Auto cover the gamut of shooting situations, from portraits, landscapes and night scenes right through to underwater photography (when used in conjunction with the optional Olympus PT-029 Underwater Case).
Olympus Stylus 600 review at PhotoxelsOlympus Stylus 600 - Print quality
According to Yin Wong: "We find the overall image quality of the Olympus Stylus 600 to be above average, but certainly good enough for 4x6 in. prints, though images tend to be noisy, on the soft side and lack details for large prints. CA is visible in very strong highlights situations. In the shot above, CA is visible at the corner delimited by the red square at centre right (reproduced at 100% crop at bottom left). You don't quite see the purple fringing (more like pink) because highlights are easily blown."

Olympus Stylus Digital 600 - Operation
Yin Wong continues: "Start-up is average at about 2 sec. and shot to shot time is fast at under 1 sec. Auto focus is fast and precise even in low-light situations. There is no viewfinder but an extra large 2.5 inch LCD monitor with a standard 115,000 pixels resolution. We'd prefer more resolution on the LCD monitor. The refresh rate is adequate but not as fast and smooth as we'd like. Operations are fast and the many Scene Modes make this a very easy-to-use and operate point-and-shoot digital camera. About Photoxels
Photoxels was founded in 2002 by MyKhanh Wong (Owner, Editor) and Yin Wong (Contributing Editor), the editors behind Photoxels. In 2001, we went on the Web to learn about digital cameras like everyone else. But it seems that the more we read about digital cameras, the more reviews we scrutinized, and the more we searched... the more confused we became. If we were somewhat confused about which digital cameras to buy before visiting the digital camera review sites, we became even more confused after reading most of the (very) technical reviews. Slowly, one article and one review at a time, we pieced together what were really important to know about digital cameras and clarified many of the digital photography-related terminology. We decided to share what we learned on the Internet, and Photoxels was born.
