FlashStak technology announced by Staktek : Staktek Holdings, Inc., a world-leading provider of intellectual property and services for next-generation, chip-stacking and module technologies for high-speed, high-capacity systems, announces FlashStak, a family of Flash-memory stacking technologies derived from Staktek's proven Stakpak products, with first customer shipments targeted within the next few weeks. The first available reference design, Value FlashStak, enables stacking of 0.5mm pitch thin small outline package (TSOP) Flash memory components for higher-capacity, low-cost Flash storage applications. Headquartered in Austin, Texas, Staktek operates two world-class manufacturing locations in Austin and Reynosa, Mexico.

DRAM stack - Flash solution
"With more than 175 million DRAM stacks shipped using our patented Stakpak technologies, it was a natural progression for us to expand into the fast-growing Flash memory market by offering Flash stacking solutions," said Robert Fan, general manager of Staktek's Emerging Markets Business Unit. "Value FlashStak leverages our existing TSOP stacking expertise and proven manufacturing processes while offering value pricing targeted at the consumer electronics market."
High density storage - Production cost
The Value FlashStak reference design enables Flash-based devices, such as USB Flash drives, solid-state drives, Flash-based MP3 players and other consumer electronics, to achieve high-density storage capacities with lower-cost, lower-density Flash memory. Licensing and manufacturing services for the Value FlashStak design are now available to OEMs, memory semiconductor companies and third-party memory module manufacturers.
PNY Technologies - Flash media
PNY Technologies will be the first customer to incorporate FlashStak into its Flash memory product offerings. "PNY markets a broad line of high-quality Flash Media products that provide quick, easy storage and transfer of large image, music, video or data files," said John Orzepowski, marketing manager for Flash media, digital entertainment and Flash drives for PNY Technologies. "With Staktek's Value FlashStak technology and quick-turnaround manufacturing, we are able to offer double-density products within our Flash memory product line in time for the holiday buying season." Staktek offers a complete line of TSOP and Chip Scale Package (CSP) chip-stacking technologies, along with ArctiCore, a revolutionary module technology designed for superior thermal, mechanical and electrical performance in enterprise and consumer electronics. Staktek offers intellectual property licensing and manufacturing services for all of its products and solutions.
