Steve's DigicamsOlympus E-500 DSLR review at Steves Digicams : Our good friends at Steves Digicams have published their full review of the Olympus eVolt E500 D-SLR camera. The new E500 digital SLR camera captures your images in 8.0 million pixel quality using the premium Full Frame Transfer CCD. And besides the ergonomic, professionally approved layout of the controls, usability is also enhanced by the high-resolution 6.4cm/2.5-inch HyperCrystal LCD, which allows results to be viewed in a large format directly on the camera. Furthermore, the Olympus E-500 offers two flash memory card slots, for both CompactFlash and xD-Picture Card media. The patented Supersonic Wave Filter ensures worry-free lens changing anywhere and anytime.

According to Steve: "Camera operation was a breeze. The E-500's playback mode was responsive and informative; it provides as little or as much information as you want, including your choice of brightness or RGB histograms. The E-500's single image shooting performance is average in the consumer dSLR class of cameras. The E-500's auto focus system is accurate, but it has only 3 focus points organized horizontally across the frame while the competition has more, and it sometimes had a tendency to focus hunt in C-AF with a stationary subject."

Olympus E-500 - Steves Digicams review conclusion
Steve continues: "As an amateur dSLR, the E-500 competes with both prosumer digicams and other dSLR's. The E-500's results were well-exposed, and color reproduction was realistic. The Olympus E-500 is a very capable amateur dSLR, offering terrific image quality, an extensive list of useful features and an automatic cure for a common dSLR annoyance - the dusty image sensor.
