NikonThe Nikon scanner that is now being introduced is a user friendly and affordable scanner also for starters. The performance however is on a quality level that earlier only was found at the more expensive models. The new COOLSCAN V ED has an effective optical resolution of 4000dpi and the 14-bit A/D conversion offer the scanner the possibility to produce high quality scans. The scanning time is short: an image is ready after 38 seconds including image transfer and reproduction. The COOLSCAN V ED can be used for different applications: scan negatives or slides to print or to send as e-mail attachment or start a digital archive from older or recent negatives or slides or use an image on personal or business web sites.
Nikon introduces affordable Nikon COOLSCAN V EDFlatbed scanners stay way behind as for image quality. The value of the COOLSCAN V ED also increases because of a large assortment of accessories that enables scanning of different type of film, such as 35mm strip films, framed slides and APS cassettes.

The high scan resolution of 4000dpi produces images with impressive detail. The 14-bit A/D conversion and the 8-/16-bit output offer true to life colours. The upper class CCD sensor guarantees high image quality on the whole image surface.

Nikons exclusive key technologies play an important role in the astonishing high quality level of this entry-level model of the COOLSCAN line. The most important component necessary making quality scans is the scan objective. Using the high quality Scanner Nikkor ED glass in the objective guarantees an effective reduction of chromatic aberration and distortion. The result is a superior clearness and contrast. Using Nikon's own LED enlightenment technology no maintenance is necessary, no start-up time needed, nor film damage is done because of heat. The Nikon Colour Management System offers a consistent colour reproduction on monitors and prints.

The COOLSCAN V ED also offers extremely advanced image restore technologies. Digital ICE 4 Advanced, the new and improved digital image restore function, contains the following components ICE (image correction and improvement), Digital ROC (Reconstruction of Colours), Digital GEM (Granular elimination management) and the brand new DEE tm (Dynamic Enhanced Enlightenment). Beside that the Scan Image Enhancer corrects brightness and colour just pressing the button!

Also add the plug-and-play USB 2.0 interface to enable fast transfer of the scans and Nikon introduces an affordable film scanner that offers the user convenience that you desire and the quality that your photos deserve.

The Nikon COOLSCAN V ED scanner will be available in November 2003.

The COOLSCAN V ED is designed for high convenience to the user, also for starters. Put the film in, press the button once to see the preview and activate the scan button. After 38 seconds you have a high quality image on 4000dpi. The transfer of the image information is very fast because of the USB 2.0 connection.

Unequalled image restore functions
-The Scan Image Enhancer automatically adjusts brightness and colour saturation, to obtain images with an optimum gradation.
- Digital ICE 4 Advanced
Digital ICE 4 Advanced is an impressive combination of 4 image correction techniques. Digital ICE uses LED enlightening techniques to detect dust and scratches and retouches them automatically, without changing the image information. Digital ROC analyses bleached colours and rebuild the image in natural, original colours. Digital GEM decrease the effect of granules of a film so clean images appears without colour dust clusters or granules. The new DEE function makes enlightenment corrections to regain details that otherwise would be hidden in the dark or light parts of the image.

For cassettes of the Advanced Photo system (IX240): thumbnail reproduction, continuous scanning and possibility of series scanning.
