SamsungTorino 2006 Olympic Torch Relay with Samsung : Samsung Electronics, Presenting Partner of the Torino 2006 Olympic Torch Relay, announced today its lineup of world-class athletes to run as torchbearers, kicking off the 100-day countdown to the Olympic Torch Relay. Samsung athlete torchbearers were selected from various corners of the world with the objective of spreading the Olympic Spirit by carrying the Flame in Italy. “I am delighted to have world-famous athletes in my home country for the once-in-a-lifetime experience of running with the Olympic torch,” said Alberto Tomba, Italian skiing legend with three Olympic gold medals and Samsung global athlete ambassador for the Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games.

The Samsung athlete torchbearers include: Franz Klammer, a gold medalist in alpine skiing and ‘Ski-Imperator' for his role in making ski history for Austria; Lu Chen , China's first Olympic medalist in figure skating, Dino Meneghin of Italy, one of the greatest international basketball players ever with a record 836 games played and 8,560 points scored and Robert Korzeniowski of Poland, a three time Olympic winner in the 50 km walk.

Franz Klammer - Olympic Games
Klammer, who dominated the field of classic alpine skiing in the mid 70s and early 80s and topped his success with the Olympic gold medal in 1976 in Innsbruck, Austria, will run with the torch. His five World Cup downhill titles are still more than any other skier in history has ever gained. Besides his athletic accomplishments, he is also renowned for his many contributions to athletes facing hardship through charity and other volunteer efforts. Franz's selection as Samsung torchbearer perfectly represents the ideals and values of the Olympic Games.

Lu Chen - Olympic Winter games
Lu won a bronze medal at the Lillehammer 1994 Olympic Winter Games. She has been named ‘Butterfly on Ice' by her Chinese fans and media for her popular and unforgettable performance to Butterfly Lovers , a Chinese classic about a couple who kill themselves for eternal love, turning into butterflies. After struggling with injuries for years, she made a remarkable come back at the Nagano 1998 Olympic Winter Games by winning another bronze medal.

Dino Meneghin - Carries Olympic Flame in Milano
Meneghin's list of achievements includes participation in four Olympic Games while leading his Italian club teams to a record 13 Champions Final Cups with a record 7 championships. In 2003 Meneghin was selected to the Hall of Fame as one of the greatest player in European history. He will carry the Olympic Flame in Milano, where he has achieved the most successes of his career.

Robert Korzeniowski - Olympic Summer Games
Korzeniowski won three gold medals at the 1996, 2000 and 2004 Olympic Summer Games, while also becoming the first athlete to claim both the long distance and short distance crowns. Carrying the Olympic Flame for Torino 2006 will be another significant addition to his already impressive list of Olympic feats.

Torino 2006 Olympic Torch Relay in Italy - Rome
The Torino 2006 Olympic Torch Relay begins in Rome on December 8th 2005 and concludes in Torino, the host city, on February 10 th 2006, after a journey approximately 11,300 km throughout Italy's beautiful regions and famous landmarks with over 10,000 participants .
