Canon 5D test at DigIT : Our friend and DIWA member Kai Thon from the Norwegian website DigIT.no has published an extensive review of the Canon EOS 5D D-SLR camera. The Canon 5D was introduced last August and made, right from the beginning, an astonishing introduction. Full frame, a ground breaking price and available almost immediate after the announcement, the EOS 5D declared itself a winner even before it was reviewed. Although the Canon 5D review is only available in Norwegian, the comprehensive test includes six different lenses! The Canon EOS 5D combines a full frame CMOS sensor with a lightweight, compact magnesium alloy body, weighing just 810 grams. It features a 35.8 x 23.9 mm 12.8 Megapixel CMOS sensor.

Canon EOS 5D - CMOS sensor
According to Kai Thon: "My conclusion is that the 35 mm CMOS sensor delivers outstanding image quality, low image noise an extraordinary dynamic range. Due to its large sensor, the camera is very demanding in terms of optical quality. It reveals imperfect lens quality in a dramatic fashion, far more apparent that any camera with a smaller sensor." This conclusion is almost global heard from the various reviewers, full frame needs Pro lenses, at least if you would like to get a Pro result.
Canon CMOS sensor - 12.8 Megapixels
With five years of in-house CMOS development since the original EOS D30, Canon’s latest CMOS sensor features 12.8 Megapixels, and the same second-generation on-chip noise reduction circuitry used on the Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II. This effectively suppresses random noise and eliminates fixed-pattern noise for extremely clean, hi-fidelity images. Wide 100-1600 ISO speed range is extendable m pixels allow the capture of a superior to L:50 and H:3200. Large 8.2 range, enabling the reproduction of subtle-dynamic tonal gradations in shadow, midtone and highlight areas.
Canon 5D D-SLR - DigIT.no test conclusion
The Canon EOS 5D review published on the Norwegian website DigIT. no contains lots of sample images and technical in-depth graphs. Check the dynamic power of the Canon 5D and see for yourself what the full frame CMOS image sensor is capable of. The quality of the Canon EOS 5D is impressive, and without any doubt high-end. Though not a real competitor, but it would be very interesting to see, we are curious what the differences would be between the new Nikon D200 vs Canon EOS 5D D-SLR.
