 Nikon S4 - Features
The Nikon S4 digital camera delivers the imaging capability of 6.0 effective Megapixels, producing quality shots that remain impressive even when considerably enlarged. Despite offering such stunning imaging performance, the Coolpix S4 is designed to fit comfortably in the hand, with the swiveling section neatly enclosing and protecting the powerful zoom lens and a zoom lever located on the top of the body for easy operation. The Nikon Coolpix S4 also features a new grip design that boosts the user’s confidence when shooting. A large, bright 2.5-inch LCD makes it easy to compose pictures and simple to play back the results on the spot. The Coolpix S4 is designed to be highly portable, with a slim 37mm depth and a light weight of 205g.
Nikon Coolpix S4 - Tilting lens and Optical range
The practical concept of the tilting lens that Nikon scored with on the Coolpix 4500 and 995, is familiar and trusty. It offers every possibility to shoot from any imaginable position. The optical range from 38-380mm (equivalent of a 35mm camera) covers a huge area offered by a rather compact size camera. As far as operation and possibilities are concerned, the Nikon Coolpix S4 is a lot alike the other Nikon cameras that were introduced.
Coolpix S4 camera - Face priority AF
In Portrait Mode, the S4 digital camera offers the handy Face-priority AF function, which can detect the presence of a human face in the shot. Once detected, Face-priority automatically achieves sharp focus on the face, producing pleasing portraits no matter where the subject was positioned in the shot. There’s also the benefit of In-Camera Red-Eye Fix, which automatically detects the unfortunate red-eye effect that can occur when taking portraits with flash, resulting in better quality portraits and more confident use of flash. The Nikon Coolpix S4 is equipped with a useful Blur Warning function, too. Alerting the user whenever a shot may have been compromised by camera shake, it provides a chance to take another image before the opportunity passes.
Nikon S4 camera - Shutter and Aperture priority
Personally I regret the Coolpix S4 camera not having more extensive possibilities like shutter priority and aperture priority. The target group the Nikon S4 is aiming at will welcome this camera as a user-friendly digital camera. A small compact design with 10x optical zoom and a high resolution of 6 Megapixel offer the user high quality, a lot of freedom and what's more important, more user's convenience and easy. The built-in software that takes care of enhancing the composition or correcting the red eyes in-the-camera is especially functional. The Nikon Coolpix S4 has its own character and is, despite using an old concept, unique in today's digital camera market.

Nikon Coolpix S4 preview : The Nikon Coolpix S4 is one of the Coolpix cameras Nikon introduced just before the IFA 2005 kicked off. The concept of the Nikon S4 is rather familiar. The adjustable lens is also found on the Coolpix 4500 and 995 digital cameras. At the time this already was a successful concept also because of the extensive possibilities these cameras had to offer. Despite the look-alike design of the Nikon Coolpix S4 compared with its predecessors, the target group seems to have changed. My estimation is that the target group has definitely grown because of the fact that the S4 camera is more of an entry-level model with attractive specifications than a versatile camera with emphasis on this versatility.
