Mr Mitarai, who isnamed as the Financial Times’ 10th most respected business leader, provided insight into the multi-national organisation’s next five-year management initiative - Canon’s Phase III of Excellent Global Corporation Plan. This phase of the Plan, which will commence in 2006 and run through into 2010, includes acquisitions and strategic alliance partnerships.

Microsoft Color management systems
Canon has already demonstrated this strategic direction with the announcement of the acquisition of two Japan-based subsidiaries of NEC, NEC Machinery and Anelva, and strategic alliances with Toshiba and Microsoft. The acquisition of NEC Machinery and Anelva was designed to strengthen Canon’s abilities in automation equipment and high-precision manufacturing. The strategic alliances will target joint development with Toshiba of flat panel or Surface-conduction Electron-emitter Display (SED) technology, and colour management systems with Microsoft.

Canon Digital Cameras, Printers and Copying machine
Mr Hajime Tsuruoka, CEO and President of Canon Europe, said: “Canon is already recognised as a technology leader in the fields of cameras, printers and copying machine solutions. Our imaging technologies reach above and beyond these core technology areas. Canon EXPO 2005 in Paris will present visitors with an opportunity to experience our entire portfolio of ground-breaking technologies and gain a better understanding of every area of our world-class imaging solutions business.”

Canon EXPO Paris - New and Emerging Technologies
Canon currently spends about 8% of global sales on research and development and plans to continue R&D investment to fund future exploration into the natural synergies between its current core technologies and biotechnology, nanotechnology and life sciences. Attendees will be given the opportunity to see current and emerging technologies from Canon’s medical, semiconductor and broadcast industries and learn how the company is partnering with a wide range of industries to deliver state-of-the-art solutions in these areas.

Canon imagePRESS for Professional Print
Canon will launch a new digital colour printing technology brand - Canon imagePRESS – to the European market at Canon EXPO 2005. imagePRESS has been developed to meet the digital colour requirements of the commercial print, graphic arts and corporate markets. The introduction of the imagePRESS brand signals Canon’s highly anticipated entrance into the high-end, high-quality colour digital press market and is a complementary offering to Canon’shighly successful CLC range of products. The brandunderlines Canon’s ‘complete solutions’ approach to the professional printing industry in Europe, and will be used on Canon’s new, revolutionary colour printing digital press technologies, shown for the first time in Europe at EXPO 2005.

Canon XL H1 High Definition Camcorder
Canon will also introduce the company’s first High Definition (HD) Camcorder for electronic newsgathering, sports and episodic television, as well as documentary and feature filmmaking applications at Canon EXPO 2005 in Paris. The three CCD XL H1 High Definition camcorders deliver crisp high-definition video at 1080i resolution and feature selectable frame rates of 60i, 30 Frame and 24 Frame, and can switch back to SD resolution if needed.

Canon EXPO 2005 - Environmental Activities
In addition to presenting Canon’s future environmental solutions, Canon EXPO 2005 will also showcase current environmental conservation initiatives which underpin Canon’s commitment to achieving a sustainable harmony between the environment and the company’s corporate activities. Technologies that dramatically reduce the energy required to power office and consumer products will be on display alongside details of Canon’s resource conservation initiatives and systematic approach to chemical substance control in its manufacturing process and finished products. “See more. Create more. Be more.” is the Canon EXPO 2005 in Paris theme and brings together all of the innovative solutions that more than 14,000 delegates from across Europe will see, touch and experience in the eight display zones within the exhibition centre of the Grande Arche in La Defense, Paris.
