Photokina 2006 : Although there are nearly 12 months to go before Photokina 2006 takes place, the World of Imaging is already taking shape. The first highlight of the supporting program has already been finalized: the new Hall 1 (formerly Hall 4) will become a meeting place for imaging professionals from around the world. The Visual Gallery and the Meet the Professionals sections will be set up here. One new feature will be a forum for international image agencies. The supporting program of Photokina 2006 show will serve as a platform for international image agencies, specialist archives and news photo agencies to showcase their services to artists and art buyers from publishing houses, advertising agencies and the industrial sector.

Photokina Cologne - 2006
"Our new hall for professionals and the professional sections creates a win-win situation for everyone who is involved at the World of Imaging 2006 event," says Gérard A. Goodrow, curator of the Visual Gallery, about the concept. "It offers renowned professional photographers, up-and-coming young talents and agencies the chance to share creative ideas and to initiate business relations. I'm certain that we can exploit the resulting synergy effects to everyone's benefit."
2006 Photokina Exhibition
In 2004, the "War Envoys" exhibition organized by the VII photo agency at the Visual Gallery impressively demonstrated that commissioned photographs can also meet the highest artistic standards. The exhibition, which attracted a great deal of visitor interest, featured impressive works of photojournalism by well-known photographers from the VII agency, including renowned names such as James Nachtwey and Lauren Greenfield.

According to Goodrow, this layout offers a wide range of advantages. "This is a logical development of our successful exhibition concept," he says. "The photographers whose works are on show in the Visual Gallery will be located close to other professionals and to potential clients, such as the international image agencies. They'll complement each other perfectly."
Photokina world of imaging - Visual Gallery
Once again in 2006, the Meet the Professionals area will attract not only international image agencies and the artists whose photos are on show at the Visual Gallery, but also creative representatives of the photography, advertising, press, content services and electronic media sectors. User associations and organizations from Germany and abroad, as well as publishing houses, will hold information events and workshops on the latest sector topics. This will result in a center of excellence and a creative marketplace that offers established professional photographers and up-and-coming talents a whole host of opportunities to make new contacts, deepen their knowledge and discuss new products and ideas.
