Texas InstrumentsTexas Instruments mobile electronic components : Texas Instruments announced today a high-power, white LED power conversion chip for next-generation camera phones and PDAs. TI's TPS61059 single-cell white LED driver is optimized to safely and efficiently support up to 800 mA over the input voltage range of a single-cell Lithium-Ion battery. Based on 650 kHz pulse width modulation (PWM) controller, the device can achieve an 80% maximum efficiency. To further max battery life, the TPS61059 can be disabled and placed in a shutdown mode where the power is disconnected to the LED and current consumption reduced to less than 1 uA. Built-in pre-charge and soft-start circuitry prevents excessive current to build during start-up.

In addition to the TPS61059 converter, TI introduced a new photo-flash capacitor charger with integrated IGBT driver for Xenon lamp applications in digital still cameras, the TPS65552A. The device occupies only half of the board space versus discrete solutions, and can quickly charge a 50-V capacitor using an optimized PWM control algorithm. The TPS65552A supports an input from 1.8V to 12V, and can be programmed to deliver peak currents of 0.95A to 1.8A. It also features a thermal disable monitor.

Texas Instruments - Digital still camera power requirement
TI also introduced the TPS65520, an integrated 13-channel power management IC that meets all power requirements for today's digital still cameras while minimizing the number of required external components. The device integrates seven DC/DC converters with integrated Power FETs, a DC/DC controller and five linear low-dropout (LDO) regulators. The TPS65520 supports input voltages from 1.5 V to 5 V and features an I2C serial interface for full programmability - resulting in a highly flexible solution that occupies significant less board space than discrete implementation with similar functionality. TPS61059, TPS65552A & YPS65520 - Pricing and Availability
All three power ICs are available in volume production from TI and its authorized distributors. The TPS61059 comes in a tiny 10-pin, 3 mm x 3 mm QFN package, and is priced at $0.95 each in quantities of 1,000 units. The TPS65552A comes in a 10-pin MSOP package and is $1.00 each per 1,000 units. The TPS65520 power management unit for digital cameras comes in an 8 mm x 8 mm BGA package and is $3.95 per 1,000 units. Evaluation modules, application notes and TI's online power management product selection tool are available through power.ti.com.
