EpsonEpson UK sponsors TES Newsday 2006 : Epson, provider of printers and projectors to the education market, is to sponsor Newsday 2006, the Schools Newspaper of the Year competition. Now in its 14th year, the competition typically attracts around 700 entries ranging from primary schools to sixth form colleges across the world, who are given a day to create a newspaper or news portal for their school. Winners are selected by a panel of teachers and journalists and will receive prizes that have a variety of uses within schools. This year entrants have the opportunity to win an Epson AcuLaser colour laser printer, Epson projector or Epson photo-printer. Epson is excited to be the sponsor of TES this year.

Robinson, Newsday 2006, said: “Epson Europe is an ideal partner for Newsday 2006. Entrants are increasingly using colour and print to create attention-grabbing publications and with Epson’s dedication to colour in the classroom, the expertise that Epson Europe will be able to share with the entrants will be very valuable. Each year we have seen the quality of photojournalism increase in the entries that are submitted. Epson’s creation of the photojournalist category is perfectly timed.”

TES Newsday 2006 - Photo printer
To celebrate Epson’s involvement, the TES Newsday 2006 will also feature, for the first time, a photojournalism category. The new category will award an A3 Epson photo-printer to the school whose newspaper has made the most effective use of original photographs to help to tell a news story or feature.

Epson UK - Photojournalist category
Mary Drever, education account manager, Epson UK, said: “It’s clear from the volume and the quality of entries that are submitted each year that this competition has captured the imagination of the nation’s pupils. By drawing upon their ability to write, design and produce a newspaper, Newsday presents an excellent learning opportunity. We are delighted to be able to support this event and are very keen to see the entries that the photojournalist category generates.”

Newsday TES 2006 - Epson CD Rom & information
Newsday 2006 will be launched in January at the BETT event. Schools can enter via the website and will be supported by CD Rom’s and information packs that will guide them through the different stages of producing a newspaper. Epson will also send supporting information to those wishing to explore the possibilities of colour and print in their publications.
