Canon entered the film camera arena in 1934 and by the early 1950s had acquired an important global stature in both camera and optical design. In 1973, Canon received a technical Academy Award for a cinematography lens from the U.S. Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
"Following our decades-long success in high-end motion picture film lenses, Canon in 1958 entered the broadcast television lens market," added Adachi. "Since that time we have never ceased our R&D and product developments that have led to the present broad range of lens we offer for all forms of standard and high definition television program origination.

Emmy Award - Technical & Engineering
Fundamental optical design has been combined with innovations in image stabilization, automatic focus, and digital servo control systems to produce the high value-added production lenses that today service the global marketplace. In 1996 Canon received a technical EMMY award for our developments in implementation of lens technology to achieve compatibility with CCD sensors."
