SanDiskSanDisk incorporates mVideoGuard Mobile DRM : SanDisk Corporation announced that memory cards based on the new TrustedFlash platform will incorporate mVideoGuard Mobile DRM (digital rights management) technology from NDS Group plc. NDS is the leading global supplier of secure solutions for delivery of entertainment and information to television set-top boxes and IP devices. Use of the NDS Mobile DRM on TrustedFlash cards will protect premium Hollywood content, such as music and movies, so that consumers can safely enjoy it on a growing range of mobile phones and other portable devices. Over 87 million phones with memory card slots were sold in 2004, according to IDC, which forecasts that 164 million will be sold worldwide in 2005.
mVideoGuard Mobile DRM technology
The incorporation of NDS encryption technology (mVideoGuard Mobile DRM) into sanDisk TrustedFlash cards for mobile phones will let service providers and mobile network operators offer consumers exciting new entertainment content with enhanced security. This will create revenue-enhancing business opportunities such as content subscriptions as well as single-purchase, pay-per-time, peer-to-peer content sharing and gifting, free preview and pay-per-use models.

SanDisk TrustedFlash - NDS encryption
"By applying the NDS solution to the TrustedFlash platform, the same technology that protects over 50 million set-top boxes will now be available to mobile phone operators and handset manufacturers,” said Yoram Cedar, senior vice president of engineering and emerging markets at SanDisk. “With their security expertise and entertainment delivery infrastructure, NDS is an excellent partner that complements our strengths in jointly developing these exciting new content distribution applications." The announcement marks the first availability of TrustedFlash products based on the strategic partnership announced earlier in the year between SanDisk and NDS.

NDS Mobile DRM - Content protection
"NDS's Mobile DRM provides the strong content protection needed by entertainment companies and mobile operators, so that they can create new revenue-generating opportunities by delivering entertainment to consumers anywhere, anytime,” said Carmi Bogot, NDS vice president, business development. “We are delighted to partner with SanDisk to provide security for their exciting new TrustedFlash solution."
